This hotel is fine for staying a few nights in Venice! Breakfast was poor though: just one coffee and one croissant... You can heat other guests! Personnel was helpful! Hotel is very clean! The beds were a bit hard but it was fine for 2 nights!

I had read mixed reviews on this hotel and was unsure whether to book a room but we were given a nice and spacious triple room with a clean and modern private bathroom. Our room overlooked the canal so the view was lovely. The staff were very friendly even when we arrived late and checked in at 11.00pm. We were...

We stayed in Hotel Biasin in May and loved it. It is situated just off the Grand Canal so every morning we delighted in throwing open our window shutters and enjoying the busy water life outside. Also enjoying watching the locals visiting the markets selling fresh fruit and fish every morning just below us. Lots of lovely cafes and restaurants...

Hotel Marte and Biasin are sister hotels and across the canal from each other. They are about 5-10mins walk from the train station and about 15-20mins walk from the bus station. It is well worth searching for a hotel near these two stations as Venice is a total pedestrian city. There are no public transportation except for water buses, water...

Plain and simple: a dump. No one was at the desk upon check in (late afternoon). There was no written information as to how to check in and, had it not been for some student guests departing the building, we would have never found out. The room was small, and there was only 1 towel (3 guests). All windows opened...

We booked this hotel for an overnight stop before a cruise and were looking for something reasonably cheap and close to the railway station. Some of the reviews were a bit worrying but our room (no.4 in the Hotel Marte) had recently been refurbished and was spacious, beautifully decorated with a four-poster bed, and overlooked the canal. The bathroom was...

The two hotels are under a dramatic lifting and are evolving from one star up to two Some of the room are already refurbished. And the price is still quite low Very quite and comfortable You should not fear the stairs.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
