My family of 5 stayed here and were overall very happy. Staff is WONDERFUL -- so helpful and just really nice people! Room was spacious and clean -- we had 1 queen and 2 singles and one single/sofa bed -- all comfortable. Bathroom was spotless EXCEPT for the shower - mold in grout. Odd, because everything else was SPOTLESS. A...

We stayed at this property one night as party of a quick run up to Venice. Very nice staff who showed us to small, but nice room over looking one of the canals. We we four in the room (they have a pull out sofa that converts into 2 beds) so it was a bit cramped. For 2 people the...

I've just got back from staying a few days in Venice - and agree with every positive comment made about the Hotel Al Gazzettino. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the Rialto water bus stop. There is a great ATVC service from the airport that costs 12 euros, which makes about 2 stops before Rialto. The service back...

If you are looking for a place midway between the rialto and piazza san marco, this is it! very convenient for a stay especially if you are fond of the night walks through the twisted streets. the rooms were just charming.. a cross between a venetian palace and a venetian brothel... on the other hand the trattoria downstairs is my...

This hotel could not have been in a better location situated between the Rialto and San Marco. Very convenient for sightseeing and shopping. The hotel is small, but the staff are great and the rooms are colorful. We loved the rooms on the canal!

The Good: As others have mentioned, the location is great. It's a 5 minute walk from the Rialto Bridge (and the closest vaporetto stop) from the north and 3 minutes to San Marco to the south, although the first time finding it was impossible until a fine, friendly local gentleman pointed us in the right direction. There is also great...

Al Gazzettino turned out to be a great find. It's main attraction is the location, it could not be better located equally between the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square. Its in the heart of the centre and our room looked down onto a canal. Compared to other hotels I priced in Venice I was worried that this would be...

Hotel Al Gazzettino is in a perfect location for exploring Venice - as other reviewers have mentioned. It is definitely worth staying in this area as the transport is very expensive. The rooms were quite good - pretty Venetian wallpaper. Our room overlooked the front entrance of the hotel. Quiet, clean and airconditioning. Breakfast was a little disappointing - one...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
