La Locandiera is a nice little hotel very close to numerous fantastic restaurants and within walking distance from the river boat service in San Marco, the square and lots of shops. Yet it was a very quiet location in a small square. The hotel is a sister hotel and has no reception staff located in the building but this does...

We have arrived in venice around 8 pm and it was raining really hard. We called the hotel to get help and directions and we could not get a clear information . Also , we did not know that luggage service from the water taxi stop is available . You would think , the concierge would suggest it considering the...

Me and wife stayed only one night, but it was exactly what you need for a short stay (stay too long in Venice, and watch your money disappear ;)). I would say its the quality you would expect from a 4* hotel. I also must have got a good deal as I booked pretty much last minute. After reading reviews...

Great location. Great price. And after staying in several hotels throughout Italy, I can say, great bed. The staff is at the sister hotel but it's just a short walk. Nice breakfast. The room was spacious. Wi-fi OK.

The hotel is still the same, however, with the new owners, there is no staff at this location. The staff is a short walk from this hotel. The hotel is empty of staff during all hours. The breakfast has been moved to the main hotel as well. The breakfast room is shared between the owners 3 hotels. It can get...

Stayed here for 3 nights from 7Jul to 10Jul 2013. The location was EXCELLENT and the hotel was very comfortable. Continental breakfast offered wide selection. Traveled to Venice by car, parked long-term at Marco Polo Airport for 7 Euro/night, took alilaguna ferry from Airport to San Marco (1.25 hr) for 8 Euro R/T, then 10 minute walk to hotel. Their...

We stayed here in July 2013. When I booked it I couldn't believe a good hotel right by San Marco is so cheap compared to other places I looked at. We actually like the location of this place more than the main hotel Casa Verardo as it's closer to San Marco and we didn't have to cross the narrow quiet...

I've been to Venice before and stayed farther from the very centre (reads as sight no. 1, the Piazza San Marco). As Venice means walking or boating, you'd like to see more and walk less, hence our choice of address this time. We got a room in the annex, or rather, La Locandiera is the annex of the main hotel,...

We stayed for two night in June, and were pleasantly surprised by this gem of a hotel. The location is perfect, very romantic on a little square and canal, close to San Marco, but also very quiet. The staff was helpful, though you have to walk about 150m to the Hotel Casa Verardo for assistance, and the excellent breakfast (for...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
