This hotel was a great choice. We've stayed in the room overlooking Santa Maria Formosa. The view was great, the room was really nice and clean and the hotel personnel was kind and helpful. The restaurant they recommend for dinner - Al Giardinetto - was also very good. I would choose this again.

We stayed in this Hotel in 2012, but this time the service has dropped. As a return customer we were offered a free drink on the balcony... this never happened! Our room wasn't ready when we arrived back after 2:00pm and once it was it took far too long for our bags to reach our room. The guy on night...

I was here during the first stay in 2012 AND luckily I was at the desk during the recent stay: we remembered eachother shaking our hands upon check-in and smiled. Since guests arrived before check-in time, I remember they accepted my offer for an aperitive on the balcony. A few minutes later, when we were reaching the balcony with 2...

We stayed here for three nights when we were in VenIce celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We stayed in room 11 which had wonderful views over the square. We had breakfast on the terrace and presecco in the room. The staff were terrific and couldn't do enough for us, in fact everything was very special indeed. Wonderful memories.....

We stayed in for five nights in room 23. It is a lovely old building with interesting features in a square not far from St Marks. The hotel was clean, comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. However you should know that there is no lift and the stairs are very steep which could be a difficulty for old...

Owing to its relaxing, convenient location, it's past era look building, spacious room, spotless bathroom and friendly staff, hotel Palazzo Vitturi made our stay in venice exceptional. It was our first time in Venice and we really enjoyed our relaxing time in this clean and welcoming place. We were hoping to get a room with a view overlooking the square...

We had a lovely stay at this beautiful 13th century building. There is a sense of faded grandeur about the place which gives the hotel a feeling of time and place. You could only be in Venice. Our room was beautiful and very large , overlooking Santa Maria Formosa Square ,.bathroom was spotless and beautifully appointed. Staff were extremely charming...

A short walk from the Rialto stop. The staff is wonderful, the room we got was the quadruple, which was like staying at a castle, huge room with big screen tv, a good touch was the charging station for the electronics, charged 2 iphones, 2 ipads and a camera at the same time. Bathroom was by itself on a second...

Spent a week here in March. 30th wedding anniversary so we wanted a really romantic hotel within walking distance of the main attractions, museums etc. The room was beautiful, the building itself so evocative of a past era, absolutely a real piece of Venice. Although we compromised on the view (none), we didn't compromise on atmosphere, you really feel like...

This was a trip for my Birthday, was delighted with the choice.... The room had a high ceiling, and a great view from the balcony of the square, the tourists on walks were always looking up and taking pictures. The room had a phone and iPad charger, which was very useful, and a powerful shower... The hotel is only a...

A really enjoyable stay here, very convenient for Rialto and San Marco. Really pleasant and helpful staff. Room a little dingy but very well appointed. Prices reasonable considering hotel situation. Recommended and we shall stay here again.

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
