No true complaints, but there wasn't much special to report either. The breakfasts were all pre-packaged breads, etc - nothing fresh except fruit. I like staying where the breads come right from a bakery or better yet the kitchen. So, breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. But the cappuccinos are very nice. :) Ask for the room with the...

My fiancée and me stayed 3 nights at Al Teatro Bed and Breakfast and it was a very good experience. We discovered the Bed and Breakfast on tripadvisor and the perfect location encouraged us to book. Situated in San Marco area, only 5 minutes from San Marco square in a typical Venetian Building with views on Canals where from your...

We had a three night stay with Eleonara and were so happy with everything. Our room was beautiful, very clean and the bed was comfy and huge. In the day we could listen to Gondoliers go up and down the canal outside and sing and we could lean out of the windows and watch the Gondola's go by. Breakfast was...

When going to Venice we wanted to avoid the "tourist" traps and really experience the real Venice. This is exactly what we got from Al Teatro Bed and Breakfast and our friendly host Eleonora. From the first moment we opened the door and received a Buongiorno from upstairs we knew we we're "home" We asked Eleonora for some restaurant recommendations...

My husband and I, and our adult daughter stayed in the pink room. It was very comfortable. The building has lots of character, but with updated bathrooms. A great combination. The B&B was a short walk to the vaporetto, San Marcos, the Rialto Bridge, just everything. The owner has updated the building so that each room has its own heat/AC...

We really enjoyed our stay in Al Teatro and Eleonora helped us with everything - from where to go to making dinner suggestions and reservations. The location is extremely central and the facility gives you a feeling for what real homes in Venice might look like. Al Teatro will not be for everyone. If you can't handle a couple of...

My husband and I stayed in the Amber Room for 3 nights earlier in September. The room is large with french doors that open to a lovely Juliette balcony overlooking a quiet canal frequented by gondolas. It was very common to hear singing from the gondoliers- sometimes accompanied by an accordion - otherwise, a very quiet spot very close to...

A very good hostess with excellent knowledge of the city and good suggestions for areas off the main tourist spots. Eating places recommended were also very good. The B&B is in a great, and quiet location on the gondola route giving a lovely atmosphere from the room windows........close to the airport water bus stop for easy transfers.......good air conditioning in the...

We spent three nights here after time in Florence and Bologna. What a treat! We were fortunate to have the Amber room, which is huge with a very modern bathroom. But the best part of the Amber room is the French doors that open to a small balcony! We were on the balcony so often, just soaking up Venice! You...

Eleanora is fluent in English. She is wonderful in helping you select where to visit based on your interests. Easy access to San Marco area. We quite enjoyed our stay with her. Rooms are clean and well kept. Air conditioning. Our room overlooked the water way. Could lay in bed and listen to the gondoliers.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
