My husband and I, and our adult daughter stayed in the pink room. It was very comfortable. The building has lots of character, but with updated bathrooms. A great combination. The B&B was a short walk to the vaporetto, San Marcos, the Rialto Bridge, just everything. The owner has updated the building so that each room has its own heat/AC...

We really enjoyed our stay in Al Teatro and Eleonora helped us with everything - from where to go to making dinner suggestions and reservations. The location is extremely central and the facility gives you a feeling for what real homes in Venice might look like. Al Teatro will not be for everyone. If you can't handle a couple of...

My husband and I stayed in the Amber Room for 3 nights earlier in September. The room is large with french doors that open to a lovely Juliette balcony overlooking a quiet canal frequented by gondolas. It was very common to hear singing from the gondoliers- sometimes accompanied by an accordion - otherwise, a very quiet spot very close to...

A very good hostess with excellent knowledge of the city and good suggestions for areas off the main tourist spots. Eating places recommended were also very good. The B&B is in a great, and quiet location on the gondola route giving a lovely atmosphere from the room windows........close to the airport water bus stop for easy transfers.......good air conditioning in the...

We spent three nights here after time in Florence and Bologna. What a treat! We were fortunate to have the Amber room, which is huge with a very modern bathroom. But the best part of the Amber room is the French doors that open to a small balcony! We were on the balcony so often, just soaking up Venice! You...

Eleanora is fluent in English. She is wonderful in helping you select where to visit based on your interests. Easy access to San Marco area. We quite enjoyed our stay with her. Rooms are clean and well kept. Air conditioning. Our room overlooked the water way. Could lay in bed and listen to the gondoliers.

Al Teatro is superbly located - central Venice minutes from San Marco, yet secluded beside narrow canal behind La Fenice theatre. Eleonora's family home is a truly authentic, historic place to stay overlooking the waterways through which you can watch and listen to the serenading gondoliers every evening. Only 3 bedrooms but beautifully appointed, comfortable beds and smart bathrooms. Very...

Stayed based on a referral and so happy we did- just left after two wonderful nights! Super clean and large room with efficient hooks, plug ins etc. They really thought of the "little" details! We stayed in the green room which is the smallest....there are 3 rooms and the color is due to the color of the Murano chandlier in...

The B&B is in the heart of Venice, the most beautiful spot right behind the teatro La Fenice, lot's of canals and bridges, almost like a film-set, with singing gondoliers but super quiet at night as it is at a little dead-end street, so no passers-by. Beautiful and big enough rooms, terrazzo floors and good mattresses. Eleonora is super efficient...

NUMBER ONE! Eleanora is quick with the fab capucino, information and super clean. BEST part is her location. Right on a minor canal-very quiet, view of canal and ambience of Venice spot on. BEST place! Book quickly as only a few rooms!!!

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
