It is very close to the train station, only few minutes walk. It was a bit hard to find at first. We booked a quadruple room and the room was quite spacious. They had a little garden in the back where you can sit and relax. The bathroom was spacious but there was no shower door so when we showered,...

Fab location, really lovely hotel with comfortable rooms and fab modern bathrooms. Breakfast was plenty. Lots of lovely restaurants and bars nearby, and only a short walk to all the sites. Would highly recommend.

We flew into Marco Polo Airport and caught the water bus to the stop at the train station. We then walked to the hotel from there, it was a 5 minute walk. The hotel was in a great shopping area and lots of restaurants close by. The rooms were very clean and the decore was very Venetian. The rooms had...

Let's start with the positives: very friendly staff, especially the young woman on reception during the day. And now the "ok": goodish location, close to the train station and main drag through town, albeit a little hard to find Now the less goods: over-priced for what's not really more than a motel. Plastic cups in the bathroom, no tea/coffee making...

Fantastic hotel 2 minuet walk from the hotel. Centre of main attractions bars, restaurants and shops. Water bus and taxi stop just along the road. Room was very large ( room 5 ) good air conditioning - only issue was the tv didn't work. Very clean. All around lovely. Worth staying to be central In Venice !

Very close to the main train station and canal. Was greeted by a very friendly lady and unfortunately that's where the good things end. Room was small and dated. TV did not work. Air conditioner was temperamental and rattled loudly throughout the night. WIFI was not available in the room. Water pipes were heard all night too. Breakfast was average....

This hotel is picturesque, quiet, clean and pretty, a family run business full of friendly helpful people. It is not far from the railway station in a little lane called Calle Della Misericordia in Cannaregio. If I am not mistaken the name 'Il Mercante di Venezia' means 'Merchant of Venice'. Our room 383 was on the ground floor, with our...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
