The Hotel stands on a very nice street full of shops, restaurants and bars in a lovely historic district of Venice called Cannaregio. It's very close to the rail station and fairly close to Rialto Bridge as well. The Staff is kind and professional; the rooms are small and the bathroom really really tiny but clean. Breakfast is OK, so...

Everything I need with the exception of a hot water boiler so I can have tea at night. The shower has good pressure and the water is nice and hot. Breakfast is continental but the coffee is delicious and the croissants are fresh from the oven and possible the best I've ever had!

I stayed here in 2014 and again in September of 2016. the room we were in this time had an updated bathroom complete with new tile, floor, shower, sink and toilet. Very clean and with the newly updated features, the bathroom seemed much bigger than the last one we had in 2014. Hotel is conveniently located near the train station...

Location of Hotel Nazionale is great, short distance from bus- and train station. In the hotel was a lot of stairs and long hallways. The room was tiny. Something has happened in the bathroom, I guess there was a waterleak and water came into the room, wall looked disgusting both sides. Walls were covered with fabric, under the fabric was...

Centrally located and just a couple of minutes walk from the railway station, which was a bonus. A lovely old style hotel with some interesting eccentricities. Expect to haul your luggage up a number of stairs to reception as there is no ground floor lift. Our room was 'cosy' but adequate as our time was spent exploring Venice. Not enough...

A group of friends and I visited "Venice" the beginning of a cruise on the Adriatic coast. We stayed at the Hotel Nazionale, convenient to almost everything, water taxi, routes to other locations. The rooms were small and dated but clean. Breakfast was prepared hot every morning. It was perfect to start our day. The front desk staff was very...

A really brilliant, friendly hotel, just two hundred and fifty yards from the railway station along the main shopping street in Venice. We arrived early and were invited to leave our bags in the small room off the corridor so we could get on with sightseeing without carting our luggage around. Room was small but really lovely with an upmarket...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
