My partner and I had a fantastic stay at this small boutique hotel on the island of Giudecca. A boat ride to the island takes approximately 20 minutes from the train station. It took us a while to get used to the transportation system, but once we knew how it worked, it was a breeze. A 3-day tourist stored value...

We stayed here for two peaceful nights. People say that it's far from the main attractions and you have to take a vaporetto to get to the other side. I say that this isn't a problem especially if you have a 24-hr water bus ticket. What I like about this side of Venice is that there are less people and...

Stayed here for 5 nights, good choice of breakfast, clean room change of towels every day. Nice to get away from the bussel of Venice. Very helpful staff. Just wish there was tea and coffee making facilities in the room but not really that much of a problem.

If youre on a budget, before you book this hotel take into consideration you will need a waterbus pass for as long as you stay. Room: Small-ish, think box size. Shower cubicle. No bath. No view from the room. Looks onto another building. Wi-fi doesnt reach room. Two twin beds put together. Shower inconsistent with temperature. Gets either scalding hot...

We arrived at Marco Polo in the dark. When we landed we bought a return bus ticket which took us into Venice and we also purchase a 72hour water bus ticket. We caught the water bus over to Guidecca, but being dark it was not easy finding the hotel, which was tucked away at the end of an alley. We...

The hotel was just wonderful after long days amid the crowds and activity of Venice. The staff was always friendly and helpful and available. The breakfast was MARVELOUS with so many delicious choices and a most efficient and cheerful hostess. The room was immaculate and well stocked and comfy. We didn't partake of the offerings from the lobby bar. There...

This small hotel is modern and very well maintained. It is on Giudecca which just across the Giudecca canal from Venice. The canal is probably 500 meters wide. The vaporetta stop is very close to the hotel so it is right there. We enjoyed hanging with the crowds during the day and retreating to the quiet of Giudecca at night....

I got this hotel through the web without knowing what to really expect, it seemed too good for its price, and it was! It was indeed very good! The people working there are fantastic, it's out of the beaten path location, hidden in a narrow street with no people at all but safe at the same time, it was such...

Limited services. WiFi only available in the lobby. Breakfast only available. No other amenities. Kudos to Elenora, at the front desk. Very helpful in suggesting places to eat to advising on how to get around. Our room was warm to me and in trying to cool it, we had a puddle of water every morning from condensation. But the room...

Staying in Giudecca

Neighbourhood Profile
Giudecca is a retreat for Venetians away from the crowds. Symbolically, six metal teeth represent Venice’s six sestieri (districts); the seventh, Guidecca, points away from the others – part of Dorsoduro, but separated by the Giudecca Canal. Giudecca evolved from a center of shipyards and factories to a quiet residential area with a sprinkling of restaurants and bars. The majestic harmonious Redentore church stands as thanks for delivering Venice from the plague, hosting an annual heartfelt festival.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The hotel is on the Giudecca Island, the largest one of the Venice lagoon with its eight islands connected by typical bridges. In this context with its backwater charm we find the Hotel Giudecca, an elegant building in a vaguely retro style far away from the tourist bustle of the historical center. In its renovation, this architectural lagoon gem has preserved the traits and the value of its incredible past. A private dock on the Palada Canal provides a water entrance. The 30 rooms have kept an ancient and sophisticated line though offering the most contemporary comforts and amenities. The hotel is the ideal starting point for those who want to live and experience the real Venice in its authentic bohemian style: the Venice which reminds the aristocratic salons, the intrigues and legends. The Venice of the fishermen, of the artisans who have chosen a long time ago to base on this island their own businesses, but also of the fugitives who fled here over the centuries. All this at a short distance from the heart of the city: San Marco Square which can be reached from the hotel by boat in a few minutes. ... more   less
