The hotel room was quite large and well decorated, had a view of the channel, had very high ceilings and a beautiful chandlier in our room. The coffee was great and the breakfast was good for us but someone complained that the breakfast was not great but we had everything that we wanted for breakfast - we don't need eggs... More

Smallish but perfectly positioned hotel 2 minutes stroll from St Marks square. Pleasant staff & spacious rooms. We had a junior suite which had 2 rooms & bathroom. approx 4 levels accessible by stairs or the smallest lift I have ever been in. Very quiet & in a great little spot. It's in a tiny square with shops, alfresco cafes... More

This is a small hotel but so well located for sightseeing. Only a 5 minute walk to st marks square and 10 minute walk to Rialto bridge. Very picturesque area with restaurants and shops right on the doorstep. The room was a bit dated but comfortable with aircon and a safe. There was a mini bar but we didn't use... More

located in the heart of Venice, this is a beautiful place to stay. The staff and the director were very helpfull. The location was excellent with the water taxi stopping at the front door. Also the hotel is literally a 2 minute stroll to Saint Mac's square.

Do not get me wrong... the hotel is OK, it is just not worth the price we paid for it (overpriced as pretty much everything in Venice... we paid almost $260 CAD for one night stay). The room was nice, although you can see the age (the wallpapers are stained already), but it was clean. We were a bit surprised... More

Stayed one night at this hotel. Very convenient location, close to St Mark's square yet still quiet. The main iconic sites are a walking distance. There is a gondola stop right next to the hotel. Lots of eating places around as well as a small supermarket. Spacious room for a city centre hotel with all the modern comforts. Toiletries are... More

Fantastic position, just off St Marks square. We were up in the top room so it was little warm, but it was a lovely large room. Nice en-suite bathroom and great shower with lovely towels! We were near to the breakfast room and we thought the choices were OK, certainly enough choices for us. But the staff weren't great at... More

One of the best experiences we had so far, hotel is in the middle of everything, beautiful views, so many dining options around, easy access to transportation to both airports, and very friendly and warm staff. We bought a couple of tours from Expedia which were pricy, a ticket to all local historical places is €17/person and is valid for... More

We stayed for a long weekend in August. Superior room overlooking a street with restaurants and bars. Nice size room. Quiet hotel. Small bathroom, but that's to be expected in older buildings. Hairdryer is available but not very good a drying hair, it's better for clearing steam off the bathroom mirror. There is no iron in the room and you... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
