The Palazzo Selvadego is a quiet, charming boutique hotel in a centuries-old building just behind San Marcos Piazza. It is owned and run by the Hotel Monaco, which is a much more modern hotel 1.5 blocks away (3 min walk) on the Grand Canal. The rooms at the Palazzo are so charming but there is no real hotel lobby to...

The Palazzo Salvadego is extremely well situated in Venice, just a few steps away from Piazza San Marco. The hotel itself is well appointed, the rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are huge, with separated double sink area. BUT the bed linens are absolutely AWEFUL! They were so rough that after the second night I started having rashes all over my...

After a business trip nearby, I decided to stay a couple of nights in Venice to enjoy carnival. I stayed at Palazzo Salvadego following its good reviews. It was not a good experience. First of all this is not a 4 star Hotel, it is more like a 2 star. It is extremely expensive for what it offers. The only...

I only had two night in Venice, and it's an expensive city. Traveling on my I own, I chose Selvadego for its prime location and reasonable price. It was literally right behind San Marco by just a few steps. The neighborhood was too touristy for my taste but given the brevity of my visit, I wanted to be in a...

This hotel is right off the square making it very convenient. There are no outward signs of the hotel on the street though. Don't let the tiny lobby fool you! The rooms are luxurious with beautiful, large bathrooms. Just a short walk to the Hotel Monaco for breakfast which was lovely and had a terrace facing the water.

Straight to the point-- Do Not Stay Here. Save your money and go to a hotel that has more hospitable staff and cleaner facilities. Stayed here one night and I'm glad it was only one night. The sheets were dirty, I felt disgusting after sleeping in the bed. The shower had mold. It was just horrible. The only good thing...

I couldn't be happier with my stay at Palazzo Selvadego. The rooms are very spacious and the bathroom luxurious. Our shower had three separate shower hoses, which led me to believe Italians are kinky! Anyway, the hotel is a couple of steps away from Piazza San Marco, which is the main square of Venice, and where all the touristy stuff...

We took the Alilaguna public bus from the airport to San Marco stop, 15€ each, one way, 1 hour. We checked in at the main hotel Monaco and the bell hop walked up to the Pal.Selvadego, 5 minute walk thru confusing turns on the first day, but by the next day we were navigating the streets and alleys easily. Our...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
