I stayed there for a night and thank goodness it was only one night. The room was tiny and not as clean as one would expect in a place like this - some corners hadn't been cleaned in weeks probably judging by the dust. The shower was wet when I arrived and that didn't make me exactly comfortable. The wifi...

Right next to St Marks and fantastic sized rooms. Huge bathroom and quality amenities supplied. Was expecting a tiny room so was really surprised to enter this room. Reception is in another hotel so a little tricky but it appears any water taxi operator knows where to drop you off. Great spot to stay

Nice, clean, and rather spacious room (for a European hotel). The room furnishings were basic, but just right. Great location, and breakfast at the main hotel was lovely overlooking the water. In fact the water taxi drops you off and picks you up from this breakfast area; very convenient. This hotel does not have a formal lobby but don't worry...

Excellent location, helpful staff, very good breakfast at the Hotel Monaco terrace, which offers an outstanding view. It was a very nice Venice experience, even when one is travelling for work and I would recommend it to everyone!

Great hotel, lovely room and breakfast in main hotel on the grand canal was fantastic, lots of choice. Easy to recommend. Best location in Venice, as close to St Mark's Square as you can get. Excellent service and transfer to main hotel, would highly recommend.

This was a basic room but comfortable. Air con was very much appreciated. It took us a long time to find the hotel, you have to check in at hotel Monaco and grand canal, which was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful so it was a bit of a let down to then enter a regular hotel, but it was nice all the...

I stayed in Venice for three days in August and opted for a mid-range priced hotel that was centrally located. This hotel is right in the thick of it and I could see the entrance to St Marks Square from my bedroom window. Be warned, if you do not like a lot of peripheral noise from late night revellers then...

We had 1 night in Venice in July 2016 and stayed at this amazing hotel - the annex hotel to hotel Monaco & Grand Canal. Great location just behind the Marco Square! At arrival the frontline staff were very friendly and stored our baggage as we were there early. We explored some of Venice and when we returned the baggage...

Arrived to a rude/blunt receptionist who told us our room would not be ready until gone 3pm (check in was at 2pm and we arrived shortly after this). Room was big and spacious, however the shower was temperamental, the room overlooked a building site and the busy Hard Rock Cafe which was loud, and we were awoken consistently at 2am...

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights, the check in went very smooth and our bags were taken to the room by one of the staff. We were very impressed with the superior double room which had a huge bed and was a good size in general, the bathroom facilities are great too, even the hairdryer is a proper...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
