This is a great little hotel for seeing Venice on a budget - it is located approximately 5 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco and the Valleresso water bus stop. The hotel is above a row of souvenir/tourist type shops on Calle de Fruttarol (note that there is no lift) and is small but has has a cosy feel to...

When we arrived in Venice, we set out on trying to find the hotel which became a task in itself. Generally it's kind of tough to find addresses to begin with and after about 2 hours of searching with our backpacks on we gave up and my Wife approached a police officer who was more than happy to point us...

Having used trip advisor many times thought it is about time for me to write own review to help others. Booked Hotel Mercurio on recommendation from another hotel we wished to stay in but booked but wasn't disappointed. We booked a canal view which is worth it as right on bridge/canal where all the gondolas pass (can get bit noisy...

Hotel Mercurio is very well-located near Piazza San Marco. While the rooms are a little small, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast is simple but plentiful, and the hotel is very comfortable. It's certainly worth the cost for the great location.

The Hotel Mercurio was an excellent choice for me in Venice. I got there after taking the airport vaporetto(1 hour/10 minutes). It was surpisingly long, so don’t expect a quick ride, unless you are prepared to take a fast water taxi($$$$$$$). When you get off the vaporetto, you are directly in line with the hotel map. The hotel is rather...

We stayed at this hotel for my 50th birthday. After spending hours on the internet searching for a hotel that had good ratings AND two rooms with a canal view, I booked the Mercurio. We arrived at the hotel (which wasn't too hard to find) to see that the entire front of the hotel was enclosed in scaffolding draping and...

For two stars, this hotel provides excellent value. The location is great...close to San Marco square, the Rialto and plenty of restaurants and shops. We were given a room just off from the front desk. The room was small but this should be of no surprise. I would not recommend the rooms just off from the front desk as we...

It is important to keep all things in perspective. First, this is a "two star" rated hotel. Second, as a destination, Venice is inordinately expensive. Our double room rate of € 160 per night including breakfast was very reasonable - given these facts. The staff, especially the lady behind the desk were super friendly, helpful to a fault and the...

We stayed at the Hotel Mercurio for three nights. Although our canal view was blocked by scaffolding, we were told that we could move our room if that was not acceptable. The hotel staff, Monica and Natale, are extremely warm and friendly. Monica speaks several languages fluently and made us feel at home. The room was small but clean and...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
