We will say “thank you very so much”! Our stay in your Hotel and my Birthday was very nice, the service very good and the staff was very friendly:-) The walking distance to San Marco and Rialto was perfect. If the next time we come to Venice, we like to come back to “Hotel Ala”.

Our first night in September we roasted in our room and walked the floors most of the night. We alerted the desk but no changes were made. The next morning the hotel was loaded with a tour. Breakfast was extravagant including eggs. The next night we were told the air conditioner was repaired but not much change. To open the...

Great location in beautiful Venice and easy to find from the vaparetto stop. Only a 5 minutes walk to St. Marco Square but still in a quiet area. The hotel itself is quite average, and our room had a very strange smell, however the staff at front desk were very helpfull. Also the breakfast buffet is generous and very good....

We have stayed at Hotel Ala many times, recently for a week. The location is perfect, as others have written, just steps to the vaporetto and traghetto. Easy walk to San Marco, La Fenice or Accademia bridge. The staff is great, and they have a popular bar/lounge. I don't know how some reviewers can call the breakfast here 'not big' -...

Great location - close 5 minutes walk to St Marco Square and in a quite area. We had a room on 4thfloor on the small canal where the condolas with there singing and music when passing entertain us. The staff at front desk were very helpfull and answer all questions that were ask. They arrange for us a complimentary visit...

Having arrived at the back door by private water taxi via a narrow canal, we were surprised by the beauty of the lobby. Our check-in was flawless for the four couples traveling together. We dropped our bags and headed out for the day. When we returned the bags were in our rooms and we each had a different layout plan....

We stayed in the hotel Ala in October 2011, our first trio to Venice. After a disappointed experience with Venice-Connected machines, we arrived at mid night, the front desk and bell person were friendly, quickly to get us to our room. The room was large, charming, simple Venice style; It's better than our expectation since we'd read few horrible reviews...

Our 3rd floor room overlooked the canal with gondolas going by in the afternoon and early evenings. Very charming. The room was large with three windows. Our only complaint is the shower which seemed to be an afterthought in the bathroom. If you get a room with a bathroom that is all tile with a shower curtain in the corner,...

We stayed in the Ala in September 2011. It was our fourth stay at this hotel. The location and value are exceptional, but this time the staff performed beyond expectation. I took our clothes to a laundry and didn't check the closing time for the laundry and when I returned to pick up our clothes the laundry was closed. We...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
