This is difficult to describe - very oldie worldie. Rooms were fine although our friends, s had trouble with shower rose. Thankfully friends were already here and met us from the train. No lifts of course so lugging cases upstairs not ideal. Breakfast was ok. Position was good and plenty of food places etc just out on the street. Not...

This is a very difficult place to describe, as it's not really a hotel and not really a B&B. It's something in the middle. A mixture of quirkiness and messiness, a mixture of charm and sloppiness. Firstly, the room (no.25) was excellent, with an amazingly quiet and green view (rare for Venice) to the back of the property. It was...

After returning from Venice this evening I feel I have to make other travelers aware of this hotel! A small oldie wordie building in a quiet alleyway of a busy street, a short walk from a vaperetti stop (guigle) with shops cafes and restaurants on your doorstop. We arrived late at night so rang the bell and another guest must...

We are here at the moment not being our choice as we booked another hotel which from there end they didn't had any room available for us. Reception area open till 7pm. Breakfast start at 8.30am when we have to leave the hotel at 7.45am. No one to speak to and at the reception we saw one of the "staff"...

Pretty good location and lovely room. The only difficulty we ran into was that we arrived at around 11pm and after ringing the bell someone buzzed us in (presumably another guest) because no one was at reception to let us in. We waited for a while and eventually saw a bedroom key and just let ourselves in. Other than that...

Once we'd found the hotel down a narrow alley in the lovely district of Canerregio we were glad to get out of the rain (!) and drop our bags. The interesting entrance method via a bell and very slow automatic door (like something out of the Adamm's family) gave us a chuckle. The reception staff were not overly exuberant but...

Stayed one night on our way home following a cruise. The hotel is central and within easy walking distance for all the major attractions. Situated up a side street off the main street. Our room was large well decorated and a nice comfy bed. You do have to climb two flights of stairs so not ideal for anyone with mobility...

This was the first time I went to venice. The place is beautiful. But sorry to say that the hotel is not at all good. First you have to climb the stairs. Noone to help with your luggage. After 7p.m Noone is there, if there is an emergency Noone to help you. Even for breakfast Noone to guide you if...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
