For a one star hotel it was clean, air conditioned, clean sheets everyday and Superb central location. No complaints ... Good value !!!! Be prepared not to be in the main hotel itself as they own other buildings close by and you may have a room in one of these as we were, but no problems 😄😄

We picked this hotel as it had a good price. We were not familiar with the location, but we soon figured that it's a very central location to explore all that Venice has to offer! Venice is a very walk-able city, and when you need to use the water bus, you can walk to the Rialto or Ca'd'Oro stops very...

We stayed here two weeks ago for four nights, our room was spacious, very clean and very traditional which is exactly what we were hoping for. We had a canal view which I have to say made it for us. The Hotel staff were very polite and friendly and I would not hesitate recommending this hotel. Above all this the...

We stayed at the Al Vagon for three nights and I have to say we were very happy. The hotel is in the Cannaregio district very close to bustling squares and on the corner is a great juice/cocktail bar that always has customers, yet the room was quiet and cool so no worries from the noise at night. If you're...

I stayed in this hotel while traveling to Venice, it is situated about a 10-15 minute walk from the water taxi stop. There were quite a bit of stairs on the way to the hotel but that's to be expected as the whole city of Venice is made out of water, bridges and stairs. The hotel is located above a...

The place is close to all the tourist attraction. The room was extremely small as compared to what was displayed on the website when we booked the rooms. Housekeeping staff visited and kept the rooms clean. Staff at the reception is not approachable or friendly. Overall it's an average place to stay

My 12 year old daughter and I recently spent 3 nights at the Hotel Al Vagon and loved the place! Our room was number 2 which has a balcony overlooking a canal. Fantastic view and really felt like we were in the center of everything! Gondola's pass by, people walking over the bridge, we loved having our balcony and window...

Great location Just 3 minutes from Rialto bridge. Clean room. Air conditioning was perfect. The area has a buzz. Friendly staff. Would love to come back. Easy access to shops, Strada Nova, restaurants, Water Taxi. The other areas such as San Marco and San Polo are only 15 to 20 minutes away if you like walking.

Good location; not far from Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge is only a few minutes away. Gondola and water taxi arrive and depart from steps leading up to the rooms. The rooms are spotlessly clean with excellent air con and wi-fi. Only thing is the bells start going off at 7am and then on the hour after that, on...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
