Locanda San Barnaba is a converted palazzo that maintains its elegance and charm in all the common areas including the reception, the upstairs lounge, the outside terraces, and the breakfast room and outdoor patio. Our room was spacious and well appointed and we had a view over the quiet canal running alongside the hotel. The entire staff is friendly and...

We spent 3 nights at this small hotel. It is a 1 minute (at most) walk from the Ca' Razonnico vaporetto stop, with no bridges. We were looking for a reasonably priced (for Venice) hotel room with some ambiance, and a balcony. Believe me, this is hard to find. I spent literally hours researching hotels in Venice, and despite their...

We stayed here for only 2 nights and I wish we had more. Our room was lovely with 2 balconied windows over a quiet canal with a fresco on the ceiling! The breakfast was very nice, including eggs which is not usual for Italian B&Bs. We found the location to be quite central, very close to a vaporetto stop and...

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel. We liked the elegant building with its beautiful entry and the magnificent hall upstairs. The room was well furnished and everything was impeccably clean and tidy. And the breakfast in the cosy breakfast room and garden was excellent. Most of all we appreciated the friendly service which was always helpful, especially when dealing...

The hotel is easy to get to from the Vaporetto #1, and close to the Accademia and the Guggenheim Museums. it is about a 15 minute walk to St. Marks Square. We preferred the location of the hotel as it was markedly less crowded with tourists and yet was just as scenic. The room was a large triple on the...

My husband and I and our 16-year-old daughter stayed at the Locanda San Barnaba for two nights in June 2010. It is a very nice family hotel in a good location -- in Dorsoduro, across the Grand Canal from San Marco and about a 20-minute walk from St. Mark's. We had a very large triple room on the third floor...

I loved the location, just a little ways away from the Academia, Guggenheim, Ca Rezzonico, Campo San Margherita. The bridge to San Marco was right there when we wanted to visit that area, and the local dining was superb, with great suggestions by the hotel staff. We were marooned for another few days by the Iceland Volcano, and everyone (but...

My husband, my teenage son and I stayed four days in this wonderful boutique hotel. The hotel is conveniently located in the Dorsoduo area of Venice, meaning that you are close to everything but not dealing with the huge numbers of people or paying the high prices of the St. Mark's area. The staff helped us with organizing our trips...

This is a small and comfortable hotel, 3 minutes walk from the Ca' Rezzonico vaporetto stop for the No 1 boat, thus convenient both for the airport and the train station. The hotel is near some delightful small and nto too expensive restaurants. The staff were extremely helpful and altogether it was a not too expensive (for Venice) and comfortable...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Experience a warm welcome in a 16th century Palace, where the enchantment and magic of Venice are complemented by the modern conveniences required by even the most exacting clientele. An architecturally sensitive restoration has brought back to life serene splendor of the era of which this building is an admirable example. Each of the fourteen rooms has a story to tell: the lover's nest, the philosopher's refuge, the artist' s studio, the playwright' s chamber, where echoes of his muse still linger. The "Locanda San Barnaba" is located in the center of the city, between Accademia Gallery, Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge, easy to reach from Piazzale Roma or "Santa Lucia" Railway Station by Vaporetto n° 1 (Ca' Rezzonico Stop). ... more   less
