This small inn near the Ca Rezzonico vaporetto stop is conveniently located for visits in and around the sestiere of Dorsoduro. The Accademia bridge is five minutes away, San Barnaba is en route. Santa Margherita is also five minutes away. It is exceptionally convenient. The management is friendly, experienced, professional and provide a relaxing place to stay. The little garden... More

Situated just 50m from the waterbus stop Ca Rezzonico it was perfectly placed for sightseeing. Our room had beautiful frescos on the ceiling and was entered via a lovely lounge area with gorgeous chandeliers. The bathroom was narrow but adequate. Although on the 1st floor there was no lift and 18 stairs to climb. We ate breakfast every day in... More

This is a lovely, well-run hotel in the Dorsoduro area that gave us a sense of old Venice. Our room had a fresco on the ceiling, was very quiet, and was air-conditioned (a much appreciated modern feature!). We ate breakfast in a little garden that bordered on a small canal. You could see the heads of the gondoliers as they... More

Friends recommended the Locanda San Barnaba for our Venice stay and we are delighted that we followed up. The hotel is located 150' from a vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal, but being on the Dorsoduro side it escapes the tourist crowds. There are 2 very lively squares nearby however and we ate and drank every night at the Campo... More

This is a little gem of an hotel. The plants and vines on the walls of the garden by a canal where gondoliers passed silently were in full bloom. It was a perfect spot for a satisfying breakfast under blue skies with the sounds of birds overhead and bells from the nearby church ringing regularly. The garden or the large... More

Our experience here was unique. We took all fourteen rooms of this gracious old converted palazzo and made the place our own for a week. It was an unqualified success. The staff were welcoming and nothing was a trouble. It is not modern, but everything works. The rooms are all different but each has a charm of its own. Some... More

Perfectly situated to get the very best out of Venice .60 steps from the excellent water taxi that runs frequently. Friendly staff, adequate rooms, clean and tidy throughout the hotel. Perfect place to stay especially if you want to be close to St Marks Square. Breakfast rather sparse

A beautiful palazzo filled with antique furnishings in the heart of Dorsoduro . Close to Accademia and just off the Grand Canal. The staff is very welcoming and everything here is immaculate. Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Experience a warm welcome in a 16th century Palace, where the enchantment and magic of Venice are complemented by the modern conveniences required by even the most exacting clientele. An architecturally sensitive restoration has brought back to life serene splendor of the era of which this building is an admirable example. Each of the fourteen rooms has a story to tell: the lover's nest, the philosopher's refuge, the artist' s studio, the playwright' s chamber, where echoes of his muse still linger. The "Locanda San Barnaba" is located in the center of the city, between Accademia Gallery, Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge, easy to reach from Piazzale Roma or "Santa Lucia" Railway Station by Vaporetto n° 1 (Ca' Rezzonico Stop). ... more   less
