We picked this hotel due to it being within a few minutes walking distance from the train station and we're so thankful that we did! From the hotel, we walked over to the grand canal and to one of the many bridges that linked us to the many shops, cafes, and attractions. The hotel itself was heavily decorated but was...

The hotel is very handily located for transport links in and out of Venice and very near the grand canal. Plenty of excellent local amenities nearby with easy access to water bus stops. Within reasonable walking distance of the main attractions. Staff in the hotel are friendly and helpful with the reception desk being manned 24 hours. The room itself...

Very convenient location. The room was clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. I picked this hotel bacause I was traveling in and out of Venice as part of a trip I had organized. I really wanted the location, and it was the right decision.

My husband and I stayed for one night and arrived quite late. Around 11:30pm and we were greeted by the most wonderful man Alberto! He was super friendly and really helpful and gave us tons of tips as tourists. We really appreciated it! A quick tour of Venice was such a breeze because of him. Breakfast was fantastic! Mostly because...

Hotel is located extremely close to train station which is very comfortable if you are coming by train. Clean rooms, polite staff, very good breakfast. Every morning you can feel the smell! what the smell have freshly baked croissants!! The only worst thing is noise, too noisy till deep night.

Nothing special but good value for the price. Close to the train station and the bus station. So better arrive there with the bus (if coming from the airport) instead of the water taxi. Decent breakfast.

The hotel is so near the train station as well as the water bus stops. My room was clean and comfortable. No complimentary water so you need to buy your own. Breakfast was simple all types of coffee, two juices, pastries, jams. No eggs. I think that is fine as the croissants and cereal filled me up. The staff was...

I got such a good deal at this hotel (via a Trip Adviser link) so I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is located down a narrow street two minutes from the station and less that 100m from the Grand Canal and one of the major bridges. It is surrounded by restaurants and shops and close to...

We spent two nights here in Stella Alpina, and found that the location was perfect for us. It is very close to the train station and you can easily walk to the main attractions, or get a water bus which is a short walk away from the hotel. I was a little bit wary of having to share a bathroom,...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
