This was a charming little hotel about a 5 minute walk from St Mark's Square and located amongst the high end shops like Chanel, Versace and Michael Kors. The hotel was very quaint and stands were friendly. We had an upgrade to a canal room which was a great bonus and made the stay more special. Breakfast was brilliant with... More

We paid £248 for a 3 night stay in Hotel Violino d'Oro in a Classic Double Room. Good bits first: The location of the hotel is great, nothing is too far away and you feel in the middle of everything. The staff are good; they're friendly and happy to help if you have questions. The not good bits: The room.... More

Loved our stay at this lovely hotel. Staff went out of their way to assist us and the breakfast was the best of our European trip!! Our room had a private terrace and was walking distance to S Marco square and dozens of fabulous restaurants.

My wife and I just stayed at Violino d'Oro for one evening. It is quaint, and the location is the best, It is an easy five minute walk including one small canal bridge from San Marco vaporetto stop which makes a big difference especially if you have more luggage - we only took an overnight bag. It is situated on... More

We stayed 5 nights at hotel Violino d'Oro recently and had a lovely experience. The staff was most pleasant and accommodating. Our room overlooking the canal was spacious and spotless. We enjoyed the sounds of the gondoliers...singing and accordion playing! The location is wonderful although very busy with tourists and a gondola hub. Easy access to vaporetto stop, SAN Marco,... We absolutely enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel near St. Mark's Square. The daily breakfast was fresh and delicious. The WiFi was strong. There was a great coffee making machine -best coffee out of an automatic machine I've ever had! The rooms were clean, basic but adequate. There were sufficient outlets to plug in our electronics. The staff was... More

Stayed at Hotel Violino D'Ouro on the valentine's weekend. This hotel has a perfect location as well a good price. It is no more than 2/3 minutes walk to the great San Marco Square and a 5 minutes walk to the Velaresso vaporetto station. It has also a gondolas stop at the front of the hotel. It has WiFi on... One must begin by understanding that everything in Venice is expensive, relative to just about any other destination in Europe. We booked a "Mini-suite" at the Violino d'Oro, and were put in room 301, for two nights starting October 8. On the plus side, I can mention a professional reception staff, and a large room with access to an outside... More

This hotel is in a perfect location for many sites and very near the water buses. Room was good- small but comfortable. Breakfast was excellent as well as having good wifi. Fun canal to watch the gondolas as well as people watching.

Stayed at Hotel Violino for the weekend and once again wasn't disappointed. This was my 5th visit to this lovely hotel, mainly because of the friendly service you get from the reception staff (Daniella and Luca), and the great location. Less than a five minute walk from Velaresso vaporetto station and San Marco Square. The breakfast had improved from my... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
