We arrived on Friday and were welcomed by an English speaking receptionist ( put us to shame as we only knew a few words of Italian ! ) The reception was very clean and welcoming we went to our room 301 . It was very plain but clean and spacious with a patio area over looking the square .Bed linen...

Lovely warm hotel in an ideal location, as many people have said, a few minutes walk to the water bus. We picked up our water taxi from outside the hotel for our complimentary trip to Murano. We were pleasantly surprised to find bath robes and slippers in our standard room, plus tea and coffee making facilities as well . All...

Nice small hotel with an excellent breakfast offer (special diets accounted for) and friendly front-desk staff. The room was reasonably large but dark and faced a blank wall to the south. (For a more sentimental touch, try getting a room facing the canal with the gondolas.) Given the hotel's central location, the price was reasonable. Good for an overnight stay.

Buonasera from Violino D'Oro (Golden Violin :)), Venice is unique but so small that the buildings are really attached, so most of the houses have widows that look at walls, but as you know the real venetian life is outside, crossing bridges, hearing for gondoliers singing and exploring the hidden small streets! For your next visit reserve a room with...

Hotel is a short distance from waterbus drop-off point. Located in high-end shopping area. Easy walking distance to St. Marks Basilica. Reception staff very pleasant and engaging. Room small but very clean and neat. Coffee/tea station was a welcome especially after touring in the cold!

This hotel lovely! It's about a 3 minute walk to st marks square and right by a canal if you wanted to take a gondola! Room was lovely but only downside was that the air con did not seem to work as the room was always so hot when you came back from a day out. There was also no...

We had a fantastic experience here. The room is beautiful and the hotel is so close to St Marks Square which was great because we were there in the middle of summer and it was great being able to retreat to the AC room for an hour or two. Getting here was really easy from the airport. Breakfast was really...

We had the room with the terrace overlooking the canal and all the gondoliers. It was so much fun to watch the comings and goings, the early day kids cleaning them, the songs! The staff was outstanding. The location can't be beat.

This hotel is lovely, really has great character and the rooms are wonderfully decorated. yes they are small, but roomy enough for a couple of nights stay. We had a corner room with a great view of the gondola stop below. Made the stay, to here them calling to each other, and to be able to look outside and see...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
