A three night stay with BA holidays - great value, very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable, smallish rooms - definitely not soundproof, but we had no noise problems. Location terrific, with lots of interesting shops and eateries, and so close to St Mark's Square. Nice breakfast with good coffee. And above all with Venice, no noise from traffic!

We stayed for two nights in February. Friendly welcoming staff who speak excellent English. Hotel is in a fantastic central location with St Marks Square just a few metres away. Room was very nice; spotless and very clean. Everything worked as it should. And despite being in a central location the room was completely silent with no noise at all.

The Hotel is just a few metres from St Marks Square and a short stroll to the Rialto Bridge. Usually Hotels in this vicinity would cost a packet - the Orion was an absolute bargain! It isn't a luxury Hotel by any stretch of the imagination but it was clean and comfortable and after all Venice is so beautiful, we...

We stayed 2 nights at hotel Orion at the end of our trip to Italy. It was hard finding the hotel because we didn't want to pay 2 euros for a map at the tourist info counter. We were able to find it once we asked some locals and provided the street name. It is very close to St. Mark's...

Just arrived home from a three night stay at this hotel. Our room was basic but very clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel because of the perfect location, minutes from St Marks Square, a few minutes to the Rialto Bridge, in fact perfect for discovering Venice on foot.

We stayed for two nights and found the location to be perfect. The hotel is so close to the Square and so easy to walk from to get around Venice. I only discovered Trip Advisor recently so the review is very out of date as we stayed in August 2008.

Stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is in a great location, incredibly close to St Marks square. The room, although relatively basic was perfect for crashing in after a long day out walking around the sights of Venice. The staff were very warm, welcoming and very helpful. My girlfriend and I would definitely stay here again. Would highly recommend...

This is a family run hotel in the centre of Venice. You are 2 min walk from San Marco's square, it couldn't be more central! The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's a very secure place as the reception is manned 24 hours a day. The rooms are basic but very clean and have been renovated recently. Wifi is...

Returned home a week ago following a three night stay at the Orion. This was our fourth visit and it did not disappoint. The service is friendly, the rooms clean and comfortable and the breakfast more than adequate. Such good value for Venice, especially in the low season and even the mini-bar was cheaper than drinking away from the hotel....

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
