I got this room from booking.com for 150 euro a night instead of 300 a night , thinking i got a deal but all i got was mildew in the bathroom(room 9) and a tiny tiny room that had an odd smell. I had read the other reviews and it sounded good, so i must have gotten the one bad...

It seems that rooms in Venice are expensive. With this in mind, the rooms seemed to be fairly reasonable for the price. The breakfast was nothing special and there are a lot of steps from the bottom to the top. If you are in good enough shape to do the steps, then everything will be in walking distance from this...

This hotel is right on the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge with lots of local shops and markets. The only downside of this hotel is that the majority of the rooms and reception area are on the third floor only accessible by stairs. Be prepared to lug your bags up and down and to walk up and down to...

We had a fairly good experience at this hotel. The major plus is that it is located right in the mix of everything. Venice is small to begin with, but for us it was nice to be close to the canal and all of the shops. The hotel had a nice breakfast with a view overlooking the canal. It was...

The room we stayed in was certainly 'A Room with A View' and with typical Venetian decor! Staff were courteous. We loved our room and the view and it was very special as we were celebrating a 40th birthday too during our visit. Carrying your suitcase up the stairs is quite a challenge but well worth it for the Rooms...

My wife and I stayed just a couple of days at this hotel. I read about the steps and my wife has MS, but we decided to take a chance and could not have been happier. We wanted a room with a view of the canal and the rooms at this hotel were more reasonably priced than almost any other...

This was my third stay here and I would never think of staying anywhere else in Venice. It is a beautiful and historic Venetian building in an unbeatable location - just beside the Rialto. Each room that I have stayed in has been beautifully decorated in traditional Venetian style and has been extremely clean and comfortable. Also, the staff were...

This hotel was well situated on the canal. The views of the canal were from the breakfast room only. All of the rooms were up three, very steep, flights of stairs. They were old and didn't feel or look very clean. The breakfast service was mediocre. This was the most expensive hotel room on our trip (Rome, San Gimignano, Venice,...

Stayed here May 25-27, 2011 with my two teen age daughters. Rooms were very small, but the real surprise was the 86 steps that you have to haul your luggage up. THERE IS NO EVELATOR!!!! The steps are steep and and three floors of them are straight up! Once you get up to the reception area, you then have two...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"Antica Locanda Sturion," probably Venice’s most ancient hotel still running, is a cosy small Venetian House featuring just 11 rooms. Its decor, the ancient style furniture and the Venetian red damask and brocade make it special, creating a truly traditional unique and cosy feeling. A welcoming place from the past with superb and very impressive views on the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge from the two Superior Rooms and the beautiful Breakfast Lounge, which is also: - a reading room with a tiny yet well-stocked library boasting a number of books in various languages.- a living room for an afternoon break and taking photos of the magnificent sunsets on the Grand Canal. You have just to take a look in the evening or early morning to breathe the magic of Venice and take a dip in the past and its atmosphere. Truly a breathtaking view! This Boutique Hotel is a small and well-established family business run by Nicole, Manuela, Helen and Flavia, who will do all their best to provide you with specific suggestions and advice for an unusual and intriguingly unique approach to our town. And in all our old-style rooms you will find the kettle to prepare a good cup of tea or coffee with complimentary cookies to rest after a long city tour. In a nutshell the right place to breath a truly Venetian and romantic atmosphere. As there is no lift to reach the Locanda, situated on the top floor of an Ancient Palace on the Grand Canal, we want our Guest to be aware they have to climb a long stairs, but our bellman Giuseppe will be happy to help you carrying upstairs your heaviest items.
