Lovely hotel. In a quiet square away from the noise & bustle of the tourists. Close enough to all the main sites. Staff were excellent, polite & friendly. Only drawback is no wi-fi in rooms.

My family and I stayed for just one night in this beautiful hotel. We stayed in the main building (as advised by numerous reviews) and were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a suite. The room was elegantly furnished and so utterly Venetian with extremely comfortable beds and excellent room facilities (including a jacuzzi bath - very welcome after an...

For the prices I found looking for hotels in Venice this was a good value. Room size was good, good location and breakfast also good. Would like to have had wifi in rooms. I would consider staying there again if i go to Venice although I would ask for a room in first floor as the stairs in the hotel...

This hotel had really fantastic aspects and then a few downsides. The hotel was a good location, but hard to find for people first travelling to venice i would recommend either getting a porter from the water bus stop or doing some research on how to get to the hotel by foot. The hotel was very nice, good spread for...

Stayed here for 5 nights and loved it. Took about half an hour to find it (which seemed ages in the heat), we printed the map from the hotel website but it didn't really show the smaller streets of which there were many! I'd advise anyone that hasn't been to venice before to buy a proper venice map before they...

This hotel was in the perfect location for us - about halfway between Rialto bridge and San Marco. Very helpful, friendly staff, with a very nice breakfast on the Campo Santa Marina. Our room was extremely small - barely a foot around the bed, with no room for our luggage. A/C was on (supposedly) but definitely needed to be serviced,...

We stayed in Hotel Santa Marina on our honeymoon in December 2010. The room given to us had a faulty heater. When we asked for a room change, they quickly shifted our luggage to another room. When we checked the other room, it was much smaller and had old furtinures. We immediately.reported the problem to the reception but they told...

Stayed here only one night before our cruise but loved the location, service, atmosphere, and convenience. It was accessible by water taxi from the airport and then to our cruise ship. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was good. Room was very clean and comfortable and air conditioned. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here mid June on a 4 day visit to Venice. Lovely Venetian style hotel, room quite large with a very modern ensuite bathroom. Communal rooms very ornate but spotless. Welcoming staff who were very helpful when asked for advice or information. Breakfast was traditional continental so not sure why people were complaining. All in all a good place to...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
