Staying in Venice the night before we flew to London was a last minute decision for us. We wandered past this hotel by both a Gondola and on foot a week before we stayed, we went inside to have a look and query availability. It is in an amazing location however what secured it for us was the paiteint and...

Stayed in Venice for a few days at this hotel. Easy access by water bus, a few blocks walk. Nice front desk, helpful, very good breakfast. View from the room was an alley but we could care less you don't spend time in Venice sitting in the hotel room! Hah. Room was big enough. One other con was that there...

For once the pictures on the website tell the truth. The hotel has great style with beautifully furnished rooms. No problems for us with noise, but we didn't face any main thoroughfare. Just a blank wall opposite. No problem, that wasn't a view we went to Venice to see. Continental but filling and tasty breakfast. Staff couldn't have been more...

Having never been to Venice before I booked this hotel as it looked near the middle, was competitively priced and the pictures looked good. It was actually even better than advertised, as the location is perfect for visiting any attractions in the city and it's easy to find (an important consideration in a city that's basically a maze of alleyways!)....

Had a wonderful 3 night stay here this weekend with my husband, mum and dad and brother and his partner. We all had fantastic rooms, standard, superior and superior de luxe and they were all excellent. If I went back I would be more an happy with just the standard room which was still large. The breakfast was nice and...

Wonderful location! Arrived by private water taxi and was dropped off right in front of the hotel. Previous reviews brought up the noise but we shut the windows and shutters and didn't hear a thing! The room was cramped and bathroom was very small. The location made up for this AND we only slept in the room. Too many great...

This hotel is well located so you can walk to all the main attractions. It is decorated in traditional Venetian style which gives it plenty of character. Our room was a really good size with a big bathroom with spa bath. We stayed three nights and I had an excellent sleep each night. The bed was big and comfortable and...

We had a deluxe double canal side room. Ornate and evocative of old Italy, it was perfect for our two night stay and first trip to Venice. Location is superb with the Rialto bridge close by and St.Mark's Square a pleasant 20 minute walk. People have mentioned noise yet we found the shutters and windows closed at night kept all...

This hotel was in a great location. Very close to the Rialto bridge and an easy walk to St. Mark's square. The building is typical Venetian architecture. Based on the name, I think the history of the building was that it was once owned or maybe built by one of the doges of Venice. The location is good not only...

This hotel is absolutely amazing. I was travelling with two other friends. When we were checking in, we had some problems with our reservations and bookings, so the staff graciously upgraded us to their suite room. It was magnificent. Sure, it's a little noisy because it is right by the canal and this is Venice, but hey, it's totally worth...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Discover in the gothic walls of Palazzo del Doge Marin Falier, the magic atmosphere of old Venice, where art and history are the expression of an incantation. Facing Campo SS.Apostoli, reflected in the waters of a romantic canal, this is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in layers of silk, brocades, damasks and gilt mirrors that echo a Serenissima of long ago, a city of travel and commerce with the entire Orient. The Palazzo del Doge Falier, situated close to Piazza S. Marco and the Rialto Bridge, has been restored with passion and attention to detail. The hotel rooms, fitted with every comfort and elegantly furnished with original antique pieces, some have jacuzzi, separate shower cubicles, hairdryers, satellite TV, a direct telephone line, Internet WI-FI, air conditioning with individual room control, a safe-deposit box, and there is a buffet breakfast. The rich treasures of Venice, together with the elegance, prestige and history of our hotel, will make your stay an unforgettable one. ... more   less
