My husband and I decided to stay here one night while we were visiting Venice. The hotels in Venice are very expensive and this one seemed to be our best bet for location and price. When we arrived to the hotel, which is 2 minutes walk from the train station, we were greeted by their very friendly front desk clerk....

We stayed at the Hotel Abbazia for three nights upon arriving in Venice. It is easily accessible from the bus depot or train station. The staff were helpful, professional and friendly. Our room was located on the first floor which is convenient if you have mobility challenges. It was very peaceful. We appreciated the lovely patio area for relaxation and...

First class. The front desk and assistants bent over backwards to please us. They valued our patronage and our Euros. The breakfast was fine and the lounge with the bar was relaxing. A former monestary, it was neat to see how the hotel kept the ambiance for guests to enjoy.

We spent one night at the Hotel Abbazia before beginning our cruise. It was easy to find. I liked the location, close to everything but narrow alleyway to the hotel was quiet. We were greeted warmly. Our room was ready. The porter helped us with our bags. The room was spacious enough and very clean. The bathroom had a tub...

Within a block of the train station, the hotel is convenient to travelers, yet it is on a quiet narrow street (alley). The old Abbey has a small garden to catch a rest and have a Venetian Spritz between sightseeing. The staff was helpful and friendly...and no tips expected. Our bags were carried up the two flights since there is no...

Close to train station and right on the Grand Canal. Used to be an abbey so you have a feeling of old world European ambience that you don't get in a modern chain hotel. Close to restaurants and attractions. Yet very quiet during the night. Has a hairdryer and plenty of soaps and lotions. Concierges very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts...

This hotel is away from the busy area of San Marcos Square which we found to be much more relaxing and quiet. It was a five minute walk from the train station which was VERY convenient. If you stay over near San Marcos it is more difficult to get to with baggage as the alley ways can be confusing and...

My cousin spent 3 nights in this great hotel. Staff was very helpful and fun, especially Matteo, Fabio and Alvise. Their English was good and the breakfast awesome. They helped us figure out the train for next part of our trip. Super convenient to trains, buses, and the Grand Canal vaporetto system. Loved it!

Just stayed 2 nights- great hotel. Here's some advice- PACK LIGHT! You don't need all those clothes & the walkways are crooked & cobbly. Loved breakfast- eggs eggs eggs (hard boiled). So many thing to try - and they have gluten free. So nice! Fav part was coffee machine- it rocks. Lights were hilarious- light on in bathroom flooded asleep...

Stopped here for 4 nights for my wife's 40th Birthday trip. Ideal location near the train station but no noise. Wonderful breakfast and great staff. Highly recommended. A converted old monastery. The bus station is also just a 5-10 minute walk. Enjoy as we did.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
