Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the kindest and most jovial two gentlemen at the front desk. We were swiftly checked into our room and were upgraded as a surprise. Request either room 301 or 302 as a tip. They both look out to the back of the hotel and are incredible quiet. The hotel is located...

Overall a pretty good hotel in a very useful location. It's just down the way from the station, as well as where the road on to the island ends. Coach transfer from the airport cost 15 euros return, and takes 20 mins. Then it's around a 5 minute walk to the hotel. Handy location for water busses on the Grand...

The location is great, if you'd like to stay near the train station. As a former abbey, the hotel has a cool, unique feeling to it. The staff were all helpful and friendly. The price was (for Venice) quite reasonable, and the room was pleasant enough.

Nice change from your chain hotels. Excellent service. Great location, a skip and a hop from the train station. Just over the bridge. If your looking for Venetian charm, you will enjoy your stay at the Abbazia. The breakfast served in the morning is delightful.

Very close to the train station and easy walk to attractions, restaurants, vaporetto stop but by far the best thing about the hotel is the staff - friendly, cheerful funny. Was in an upstairs room and luggage (far too much of it!!!) was delivered quickly and with a smile.

First off, the hotel is just a few steps away from the train station, like you get out make a left and boom it's in the first alley, so extremely well located, it is also located right next to the water taxis which is pretty much the only mode of transportation in Venice. The hotel staff, also very amazing! They...

I had been to Venice in 2012 and disliked it so much I tried to talk my daughter out of a visit for our Europe four week adventure. She wouldn't be swayed and I figured sure but this time I am choosing the hotel with my past knowledge. We were staying only one night and leaving by train the next...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
