Very close to the train station and easy walk to attractions, restaurants, vaporetto stop but by far the best thing about the hotel is the staff - friendly, cheerful funny. Was in an upstairs room and luggage (far too much of it!!!) was delivered quickly and with a smile.

First off, the hotel is just a few steps away from the train station, like you get out make a left and boom it's in the first alley, so extremely well located, it is also located right next to the water taxis which is pretty much the only mode of transportation in Venice. The hotel staff, also very amazing! They...

I had been to Venice in 2012 and disliked it so much I tried to talk my daughter out of a visit for our Europe four week adventure. She wouldn't be swayed and I figured sure but this time I am choosing the hotel with my past knowledge. We were staying only one night and leaving by train the next...

Stayed the end of May and this hotel is in a great location, very clean and nice breakfast. It is so easy to get to from either the airport or the train. We arrived at the airport, took the bus to the city and walked over the bridge and you come to the train station and the hotel is just...

There is nothing bad to say about this hotel really, except for the lack of elevator, which probably can be said to most hotels in Venice. It is relatively close to the train station. It might feel quite a distance if you're dragging your big luggages like we do ( we didn't use porter, although there were few porters offering...

A most lovely hotel with everything you need and want in a Venice visit. Alvise and Matteo at the Front Desk were simply...incredible. We came to Hotel Abbazia after an unfortunate experience elsewhere and were welcomed with open arms. This hotel is a jewel, down a narrow alley in a great area of Venice. Only steps from the train station,...

We returned to the Abbazia hotel due to our last experience in 2010. We arrived in Venice via airport and had shuttle drop us off at Venezia Tronchetto (bus station) so we could walk across the bridge to train station (hotel around corner) - 5-10min walk, a portion of the bridge has only stairs, so you will need to carry...

-Hey, did you receive my reply? The bald, smiling man at the reception asked me. I was surprised, before we could bring all our luggage inside he asked me the question. He was referring to my mail that I sent him in the morning before taking the train from Florence. It was a routine question, how to reach the meeting point...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
