We took a trip to venice sept 20014 our travel agent booked this room as it was close to the people mover to get to our cruise port. We arrive in venice and the cab dropped us off steps from the hotel. Once you reach ferry stop you must walk as there are no vehicles allowed. We grab a luggage...

We stayed there recently prior to boarding our cruise ship. So close to the the parking area for buses, taxis and train - just across the canal so no dragging to suitcases required!! About 30 mins wander to St Marc Square. Reception was very helpful and a lovely outdoor garden at the back of the hotel for a nice G&T

My husband and I stayed here a few weeks ago on our first and probably only trip to Venice. We were both very happy with this hotel. The hotel itself is lovely- we had a room on the back of the courtyard. It was quite large, very quiet, and free wi-fi. The bed was very comfortable. We both thought the...

For a hotel in Venice the location is perfect. It's one minute from the bus station (you can get the ATVO from the airport to Venice for €6 and takes 20 mins) so you don't have to mess around lugging your baggage across the city and it's numerous bridges. The other benefit is being able to find your way home...

If you are departing Venice on a cruise, then this is a great location. Otherwise, I would choose accommodations a bit more centrally located. Having said that, this is a nice little hotel. The staff is super friendly and they serve a great breakfast. There is a laundry right around the corner that will do a bag of clothes for...

This hotel is first class. We had a great room overlooking a canal. The room was fantastic. Breakfast was a typical European breakfast in good surroundings. The room was spotless and appeared to be recently refurbished with modern fixtures and a five star bathroom. Staff were helpful and efficient. The hotel is near the People Mover to the cruise ships...

Because we were taking a cruise, we we're looking for a hotel close to the port. After reading some reviews, we decided this hotel might work out for us. We were staying for a week, before boarding our ship. What we found was a small, quaint hotel close to the port and we found it easy navigating with our luggage....

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Olimpia after a recent cruise. The hotel had an open courtyard in the middle the hotel property surrounded by a small group of buildings. The was not a bargain hotel but offered surprisingly large rooms that was well furnished. It's located very close to the Piazzale Roma and was convenient to the...

Me and my parent spent two night here and the hotel is just like the pictures. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is a short walk from the main train station and the city looks amazing at night. If you get chance, go see a show live classical music show. It will make the holiday!

We stayed in Hotels in Rome and Florence - but this was the best by far. This hotel is walking distance from the train and bus stations. The front desk folk were pleasant and helpful. While the hotel is old and full of narrow corridors and a small evalator, the rooms were clean and ours was large. The complimentary breakfast...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
