Located on the Grand Canal, just opposite Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia, makes this hotel very accessible. It's just 5-10 minutes walk from Piazzale Roma where you can take a direct bus to and from Venice Marco Polo airport. There are numerous shops and restaurants near the hotel and it's roughly a 15-20 minutes walk to Rialto Bridge. The rooms...

Ok, the food was very good and plenty of beverages given. The staff was also very nice. Nothing to criticise about that. However, the music played was dated, the burlesque show consisted of 3 very portly and plain ladies making some sort of moves (supposed to be sexy) and there is no actual ballroom despite being sold as a ball...

We attended the Carlton Carnival Ball on Feb 26th, 2017, which was promoted as part of the Carnival Program. The 140euro/pp included buffet dinner, the ball, a burlesque show and music. It was such a rip-off! The buffet dinner was tasteless, the choice of food extremely limited and even the pasta was bad! The orchestra was amateur. The burlesque show...

A stylish hotel with excellent staff .The staff on reception are full of information and attention to detail. The rooms were well serviced every day with a range of complimentary toiletries provided. T.V. and fridge in the room as in a lot of continental hotels there are no tea and coffee making facilities. Canal side rooms are well worth the extra...

The room we had was a superior room, but this did not put us at the front. If you want a view of th canal, make sure you ask for one. The most irritating thing for us, was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Having said that the room was very well presented The walls were covered with silk...

If this is a once in a lifetime trip as it was for us, the Hotel Carlton is worth the stay. Beautiful scenery, right on the Canal and close to restaurants, bridges, etc. Staff was accommodating. Love it and highly recommend.

This is a beautiful hotel to stay in, once we arrived we were made aware that we had been upgraded to a larger courtyard room. The interior of the room was very smart and beyond my expectation. The bathroom was very clean with complimentary shampoos and soaps. The staff appeared friendly towards us. I have since recommended this hotel to...

We stayed here for 3 nights in February, during the carnival. The hotel staff were not as welcoming as we'd have liked but were quick to sort an issue out with shutters in our room. Breakfast was very basic on two of the mornings and had much more choice on Sunday morning, possibly because the hotel was fully booked on...

Beautiful hotel located on the canal. Spacious rooms, nice breakfast, kind staff and perfect location for walking and people watching. Large, king sized beds, bathrooms w tubs. Full bar in the lobby, great for late night drinks or morning coffee. A bit pricier But location is key. Right across from train station and a good spot to catch a water...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
