We had a courtyard room so no canal view but it really didn't matter, our only complaint was the matress was rock hard. Breakfast was fine unless you want the full English, which we didn't. Hotel on Grand Canal, near buss station - 5 mins walk. Train station across hotel, gondolas and water taxis outside and vaparetto station opposite. Nice...

Can't beat the location, but our room was smaller than a college dorm room. The soft goods, carpet and paint have not been touched in 10 plus years. But you are in Venice! so don't spend alot of time in there.

Amazing hotel in a great location. My partner and I really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend the hotel. Ideal location right on the grand canal and opposite the train station where you can get the water bus to pretty much anywhere in Venice. The only negative thing is that breakfast isn't too great in the mornings and food...

Fantastic location right on the Grand Canal, opposite the railway station, ideal for exploring all parts of the city. The hotel was immensely clean, the staff always curtious and extremely helpful, nothing was ever too much trouble. Breakfast was the only meal we ate in the hotel, which was mainly continental with the usual limited choice of cereal, cold meat...

We have stayed at the Carlton twice and would definitely go back. Staff excellent, very helpful. Rooms beautiful. Breakfast lovely especially the scrambled egg. It is lovely sitting by the canal drinking coffee and people watching. A lovely walk to St Marks, stopping off for lunch down some small alley.

Stayed 4 nights. Room wasn't enormous but beautifully decorated and had everything you could need. Tv has only Bbc new channel. Wifi excellent signal. Breakfast excellent selection but don't expect full English (you are in Italy!) location is good and easy to find. Airport shuttle bus drops you at bus station which is 5 minutes walk. Staff all helpful although...

We got a shoe box room. There are nice rooms with the nice walls and there are ugly small rooms which are shabby. We got the shabby one. So the room and bed is not very nice. It is clean though and the breakfast is for italian standards pretty good. We forgot our key in the hotel room and when...

We had booked a deluxe room for our short stay however we were given a room which had no windows (the glass panel in the door tilted forward slightly) and backed directly onto a corridor which led to the front of the hotel. It was claustrophobic and extremely noisy throughout the night. I found the staff extremely aloof and at...

We went to Venice from 27 Feb until 1st March. I would recommend anyone wanting to go around this time to go a little earlier as its Carnival season and this ends on 28th Feb. However if you want to avoid the crowds, avoid this time altogether. The hotel is in a good central location from which you can walk...

This hotel is close to the Venice bus station and in Venice that's a big plus! In Venice you have to walk the last way to your hotel unless you pay for a private water taxi from the airport to drop you at your hotel dock on The Grand Canal, and this is very expensive. Walking is not an issue...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
