Very cold welcome at the reception, tiny room with tiny window and a lot of noise. Luckily it was just a stay for one night, as you don't really want to spend more time there. Very very bad coffee at breakfast - totally shocked to have filter coffee with milk instead of cappucino in Italy!

We were given a tiny room with two twin beds placed end to end as it was the only way to fit them in. Service is hard to come by - you have to actively seek it out. Tired and mediocre. We will not return to this hotel - it is the worst I have stayed in for many many...

Like other reviewers have noted - hardest beds ever; double bed was actually two twins pushed together; cheap breakfast (did not wait for water in instant eggs to reconstitute); very small room; had to lay on floor to access room safe bolted to bottom closet; not digital friendly re charging unit access; pillow reminded me of a camel hair pillow;...

I paid 200 Euros for a room that was so small the door needed to open into the corridor. Overall the hotel is very tired and not worth the money. The final insult was the water taxi ordered from the reception to our new accomodation booked on Airbnb, 70 Euros for a five minute journey.

The room was small. The beds were rock hard. Two twins pushed together. It was hot no air conditioning. They can not turn on air until May I think they said. The breakfast was okay. The eggs I could not eat they were so runny. But I found that to be true for most of the hotels eggs that served...

Great location as previous posters have said decor tired and we had ants in our room which when reported to reception were told it was because it was spring! Would we go again? Probably not. Breakfast room on small side an overflow room seemed to be an afterthought as hardly saw waiting staff. Breakfast plentiful and varied including cake!! Venice...

This hotel is in a perfect location. It is located on the grand canal directly across from the train station. In front of the train station are the entrances to all of the Vaporetto public water boats (different routes have different entrances). Because of this location, it is easy to get to everywhere in Venice. The hotel has maps of...

We booked here based on recommendation of other friends who had stayed here. It is a quaint hotel on the canal across from the train station and near bus station. If you are looking for a large room, this is probably not the place. Our room was very small but elegantly appointed in 1700 period French. Our friends room was...

We have just spent a long weekend over Easter at the Carlton and was very impressed with it. The staff were helpful and the hotel was clean and smart, typical Venetian in its decor, but we found that charming . The inclusive breakfast was typically continental, but all was fresh and plentiful. The hotel is a 40 minute walk from...

Stayed at a 4-Star in Florence for 240 euro and this place for 300 euro and the comparison is night and day. Place is in need of a major renovation. Rooms are similar to a Motel 8 in USA. Old, worn out, and everything is on the verge of breaking. Buffet was mediocre. Ratio of guests to buffet serving is...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
