Stayed in this wonderful apartment for one night after our "Trafalgar tour" had finished. The reception staff were amazing and had sent me detailed instructions on how to get there too. One tip would be to accept the services of a porter because getting to...More
The consistent 5 star reviews say it all really! We loved our stay in room 102, far grander and more spacious than we expected. The location is perfect as it's walkable to anywhere but much quieter than being further into the city. We caught the...More
Had a lovely few days here. Apartment is about 8 minutes walk to San Marco and 11 minutes walk to Rialto. Supermarket 3 minutes walk is handy for breakfast provisions. Area is not far from main tourist area but is very quiet. Activity on the...More
We really enjoyed our stay at Al Bailo. The spacious apartment easily accommodated our family of 5 and made us very comfortable throughout our stay. The staff, while not there 24 hours per day, were very helpful in providing good restaurant recommendations as well as...More

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a
strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

On the "how easy to get to from the airport" >> If you are willing to take a water taxi (around 60 euro I think - and the hotel will arrange it for you if you like) - it could not be simpler. Taxi will pick you up at the airport and drop you directly in front of the hotel. For us - with all of our luggage - and after a long trip, it was a luxury that was WELL worth the price.
