Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

The location, the apartment, the front desk staff - nothing to fault. We had a very spacious apartment (stayed with 2 small children), comfortable beds, everything you need and more inside, big plus for us - a lift. Probably the most luxurious of all the places we stayed in

We had a marvellous stay at apartment Al Bailo. Our apartment was welcoming, warm, clean and comfortable. It definitely exceeded our expectations. A good supply of teas, coffees, biscuits, jams and condiments. The shower was large with a good range of toiletries , toilet rolls

Recently stayed at these apartments. The guy on reception was very professional, helpful and welcoming which was a great start. The apartment itself was a bit on the small side especially the bedroom which had an enormous wardrobe and a standard size double bed. There was also a

Dear Steviec1, We're pleased to see our staff and their service appreciated, as well as the instructions to enter the building. On the other hand, we're grieved to read that you didn't know about the cleaning charge, even though we highlight that as much as possible on all the booking platforms. We are really sorry about that. We're glad that you liked our sister hotel and we hope to welcome you again in one of our properties (hph-group.it) soon, Best Regards, Dott.sa E. Everything you read about the positive reviews of this place is true. It’s spacious, clean, central and a treat to visit. However it is embarrassing that once you are on the first floor the wi-if has lost 2/3 of its signal. To download my morning paper I had to go down to the

Yes there is a receptionist there from 9ish, also on departure day they let you leave it in the reception area where they sit until you collect later, you’ll get the idea when you see it - ask away if there’s anything else you need to know, fab apartment and location.

In the room they provide: Coffee, tea, creamers, sugar, some crackers and spreads - and a bottle of prosecco. Not a lot - but enough to prevent you from having to run out the first morning. That said - the market is quite close (maybe a 5 minute walk). On the "how easy to get to from the airport" >> If you are willing to take a water taxi (around 60 euro I think - and the hotel will arrange it for you if you like) - it could not be simpler. Taxi will pick you up at the airport and drop you directly in front of the hotel. For us - with all of our luggage - and after a long trip, it was a luxury that was WELL worth the price.

Hi Claire, I'm a past guest - not a representative of the hotel - however, I do know the answer to your question. If you are going to arrive off-hours, they will give you a code to unlock the front door - and they will leave keys to your room inside. Enjoy!
