I unfortunately did not recover my bag in Venice airport -- it apparently was lost in Amsterdam in transfer. I was heading off to a cruise following my stay. Veronica from Al Bailo di Venezia was truly unbelievable - she went above and beyond. Of her own accord, she followed up while I was away multiple times with the airport... More

An excellent spot to access all the main tourist spots but far enough away to be in one of the quieter areas. Rooms are spacious, clean and well kept however both our bed and dishwasher did not work when arrived. Bed fixed promptly. We were in room 103 and would recommend against it if you want daylight as there is... More

The location is superb! it is located at the quieter side of the city center and steps away from all the shops and restaurants. Spacious and clean. We were traveling as a couple but the one bedroom apartment is probably big enough for a family of 5. There's a small grocery store across the apartment for all the daily supplies.... More

Our family stayed two nights at this charming hotel on a lovely canal. The best part of the roomy,a/c,apartment was the balcony overlooking the canal and walkway below. We sipped wine and people watched after a day of wandering and site seeing. Lots of locals in the neighborhood. A short walk to the city's best gelato shop, restaurants and sires... More

We were blown away by the 2 bedroom apartment in a beautiful location about 15 mins walk from St Marks square. Modern, spacious, spotlessly clean and had everything you needed. There were 2 bathrooms which had double wide showers and one also had a bath. Very helpful staff who advised us where to find a nearby supermarket and also recommended a... More

An amazing hotel! Both apartments were spacious and clean, very well organized and well equipped. The staff was very kind and helpful. We received our room earlier and a few treats were left in the kitchen. The view from one of the rooms was toward the canal. Cafes and restaurants nearby, and a small supermarket, as well. The vaporetto not... More

The apartment was fabulous! We were impressed by the cleanliness and how everything was well maintained. The apartment was also modern yet luxurious. The location is excellent as it's very close to St Marks Square however we did had a hard time finding the building at first and to be honest we always used to lose our way back but... More

We booked this place through hotels.com with relatively little information. We just wanted to stay in an apartment rather than booking 2 rooms in a hotel for our family. When we got there (water taxi will get you to the front door) we were happily surprised. The place must have gone through a recent renovation since it looks bran new... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
