Very close to station. Very nice and helpful receptionlist. They spent time to show us where to see. We arrival early so we asked to put our luggage in the storage room then went out for sight-see. We like the custard croissants for the breakfast.

Just returned from three weeks in Europe. We had a difficult time finding a reasonably priced quad room. La Locanda was able to accomadate us, and proved to be a good choice. The location is great, as it was walkable from the train station, as opposed to having to carry your luggage onboard a water bus, or taxi. You will...

I highly recommend this hotel. Room: very nice. Considering Europe, our room was big enough, exquisite decoration, nice and comfortable bathroom. Staff: they cannot be nicer. They are very professional and helpful. For example, without asking they were very proactive with whatever you would like to know. Location: you cannot be wrong with this location. I have been before in...

My wife and I stayed here 4 nights in June 2009. They treated us very well. Staff was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Room was clean with private baths and safe. Great location. Close to train station and bus station. Close to water buses, taxis, etc. No shortage of restaurants, walked and took Vaporetto everywhere. Nice breakfast buffet, adequate with great...

I stayed here in last June for two nights. In this incredibly expensive city, this hotel is worth staying. with only 5 munites from station, and very convenient surroundings. The breakfast was enough, as everyone commented, the cappucino was the best during my stay in Italia. Staff were so helpful and I liked their hospitality and familiar atmosphere. Only one...

Our stay at La Locanda was very pleasant. Upon arrival we were shown to our rooms and to the suprise of the lady working at the time there was luggage sitting in the rooms that she wanted to give us. They must have given our rooms to someone else since we did check in pretty late around 730pm... either way...

Nicely decorated rooms (superior) but small. Hardware floors, silk wallpaper, chandelier, and modern bathrooms. There was no elevator and the hallways seemed a bit run down. The staff was friendly. At first the young guy working there seemed very rude but redeemed himself and proved very helpful. They let us store our bags there as we got in early. The...

We stayed at the Locanda and had informed them before we arrived that we had just been married in Firenze. Upon our arrival, we were upgraded and they also sent up champagne. It was completely unexpected, we were just hoping for a nice, quiet room. But they went well beyond our expectations. The breakfast in the morning was also great....

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. I arrived in the morning from the train station (around 10 am). I notified them I would be arriving early and asked if I could store my bags. When I arrived, they told me that they had my room available early, so that I could shower or nap and start my Venetian vacation. I really...

My husband and I stayed at Locanda di Orsaria for two nights in June. It was our last stop on our 9-day trip in Italy. We were a bit disappointed when we checked in because the hotel seemed more like a hostel than a real hotel. It's very small and is old and rundown. There was a strange odor (sort...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
