This was a last minute trip & I emailed the hotel about availability, and received a reply within hours. Then also received another with another room option that just became available. Reservations were made quick and easy. Less than a 10 minute walk after getting off bus we arrived at hotel. We wanted a room with a bed, which was...

We were there early November 2011. We were given a room with canal view and the hotel provided us with sufficient basic facilities. It is within walking distance from Venezia S. Lucia train station. and located near the main shopping street where there are plentiful options of F&B and gifts. Staff are very friendly and approachable and we were very...

My mom and I recently stayed here for two nights. We were really pleased with our room, which was decorated very nicely and was very clean. The floors were made of a marble I think, which was great because it was raining and it was easy to mop up what we tracked in. The hotel staff was extremely pleasant and...

We stayed here for 1 night in early October. Reason was that we were joining a cruise the following day. We arrived from Florence by train after a few days there. Location was perfect for our needs. 5 minute walk from the station with no bridges to cross. The People Mover to connect with the cruise terminal is also next...

This is a small 3 star hotel next to a vaporetto stop but 10 mins from the station. Pros: I would stay here again just for the location. Next to the train station, 5-10 mins walk i.e., close to the bus station and close to the main and vaporetto stop (waterways). Next to some good restaurants plus good distance away...

This is an outstanding hotel for the price we paid. Staff is attentive, warm and multilingual. Location is great: you can walk from the train station with your luggage. It is located on the side of a canal and some rooms (ours did) have a view to the canal. The fact that the bathroom may be in the hallway, outside...

We arrived via train into Venice and this hotel is close to the train station. The staff were very helpful when we arrived. This was the first destination on our Italian holiday and I was amazed by Venice in general. This hotel was clean and rooms were adequate, we had one with a bathroom in our room, not shared. The...

A nice little hotel convenient for the train station and Vaporetto stops, as well as local restaurants. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Good continental breakfast and a nice little bar - with very good prices for Venice! Would definitely stay again.

Venice was the last port of call on our Italian holiday, and easily the most anticipated one. In common with all our destinations, it had to ideally be within walking distance of a railway station, and the Hesperia was no exception. We got off the Italian Eurostar at Ferrovia, went straight to Tourist Info and got a map (2 Euro)....

It's difficult to add much to the glowing reviews below, but I could not return home without giving two thumbs up to this cozy and friendly establishment. Location is ideal, as it's a short walk from the train station with no bridges to lug suitcases over. Even the walk from Lucia is lined with choice trattorias and gelatorias. Staff was...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
