This is a great budget option if you want to be in the centre of Venice without the price tag! The staff are lovely and go the extra mile (I got breakfast in bed on the morning of my birthday). The rooms are very basic but clean and decent furniture. Recommended!

I initially booked the hotel for my adult daughter and so was looking for a bargain. At €90 it certainly appeared so. However, ended up staying the second night there myself. Off the Allilaguna stop at Guglie it is fairly easy to get to from the airport. The lobby and entrance are unpretentious, all expectedly so. The room (104) was...

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Hesperia. We were offered a roomy street-access unit just a few steps down the road - no stairs! (Note though no Wifi in this unit - we used the hotel lobby.) The wonderful location is within walking distance of the train station, near a canal (Guglie vaporetto stop), and across from the Jewish Ghetto....

For a mid-price (for major European cities) hotel, the Hesperia is fantastic bargain. It's right on the canal, 3rd stop from the airport via Alilaguna and near the Vaporetto stop as well. The staff is very helpful, arranged tickets to Verdi concert and gave easy to follow transport instructions. The room was large and well appointed for the class. Sturdy,...

We stayed here for one night en route to Trieste and it met our needs in every way. The hotel is in an excellent location on Cannaregio and also has a rooftop terrace which I imagine would be especially lovely in summer. The room was small but adequate as it was just a place to sleep and shower plus it...

Myself and my husband had a wonderful stay at the Hesperia. Lovely 20 minute walk to the Rialto Bridge and St Marks and 15 minutes the other way to the train and bus station. The room was clean and a good size and all of the reception staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. If you want to get the alilaguna...

The staff here couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We opened our bedroom window and there was the canal beneath. The only downside was a small bed with flat pillows. That aside we would stay here again, great location.

This hotel was about 600 meters from the train station once you get out in front of the station. Easy to find and located near a few restaurants and shops. Not smack in the middle of the tourists so prices seemed better. Would def stay again.

We stayed 1 night here in Sept 2016 and paid about £200 B&B per night. This included paying extra for a superior room with canal view and we loved the view. The room was large, very clean and nicely decorated with a large wardrobe, safe (free to use), gold brocade and red velvet soft furnishings and murano glass light fittings,...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
