The hotel is not huge but tastefully decorated. It is right by a small canal so you can arrive by water taxi. It also has a free excursion to Murano but this should be scheduled ahead of time. We reserved a canal view room which costs a little extra. Although the room was a little small, it was clean and...

This was our first trip to Venice (well, first trip to Italy), and this hotel was just lovely. The staff was very friendly, they spoke English well and were always willing to lead us to a fabulous restaurant or to great shopping or pretty much whatever we wanted! The location to St. Mark's Square is great - close to shopping,...

This hotel was central to all we wanted to see. The free breakfast was quite good and in a large dinning area. Our room was modern in style and had a great little alcove for our luggage for easy access. The clean lines were a welcome change after a long day of sightseeing. They have their own dock but walking...

Fantastic in every regard. The location cannot be beat - located between the Rialto and St Mark's. The staff was really great - when I called to confirm my reservation the woman who answered was very nice and professional. Her English was excellent and her directions to the hotel from the Rialto stop were perfect. The room was immaculate and...

After reading several reviews on several websites I finally made a decision to book a room for 3 nights at the Splendid Venice. I proposed to my fiance in Piazza San Marco and was looking for a nice hotel. All of the Grand Canal hotels with views were booked already so I was looking for something with a more intimate...

This hotel is definitely worth its price. From the outside, there is really nothing much to see but once you get in, you know you are in for a treat. The rooms were more than adequate, the sheets were immaculate and the toilet was divine. The location was likewise excellent since we only had to walk less than 5 minutes...

Knowing how easy it is to get lost in Venice I e-mailed the hotel for directions and found the hotel in no time from the San Marco waterbus stop using their directions. The hotel is in a great location and once you find the place it is easy to remember how to get to and from the hotel to other...

This is a really nice hotel - about what you'd expect from a Hilton/Marriott perspective. Room was clean, breakfast was great, and rates were very expensive. If you're looking for a Venice charmer, with interaction and friendliness with the guests and staff, this is not your hotel. Concierge was nice and helpful but pointed you in the direction of restaurants...

We stayed at Splendid after our cruise, arrived at the hotel Thursday morning. Room was not available until 2:00p so we decided to explore the city and have lunch. Perfect location, between St. Marks and Rialto Bridge....shopping central! We never had to walk very far to find places to explore. We were upgraded to a deluxe room because of the...

Like you probably, I trawled the tripadviser & lastminute.com websites looking for that perfect hotel. This one will not disappoint. It has been fully renovated very recently, and our room was lovely & spotlessly clean, with fab toiletries. I am very picky too. We booked a luxury double with canal view. The room was no bigger than a standard modern...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

The Splendid Venice hotel is based in the historic centre of Venice, with the city's must-see sights and hidden treasures all within your reach. Just a short stroll or gondola ride will take you to Venice's most iconic sights: San Marco square and the Rialto Bridge. Like the city itself, our 165 rooms and suites are a mixture of styles, but all capture the essence of a romantic Venice holiday. Blending contemporary comforts with details that reflect classic Venetian character, each room has a light, elegant atmosphere, with many offering wonderful views over canals and the Venice skyline with its magnificent San Marco's bell tower in the horizon. Le Maschere at the Splendid Venice is one of the few restaurants near San Marco Square that is popular with Venetians and tourists alike.
