My husband and I spent 5 nights in this lovely hotel for our honeymoon. It was our first trip to Venice and I'm sure it will not be our last. It was fantastic. The hotel was easy to find. We bought a 7 day Vaperatto ticket that allows unlimited travel on the water bus and landline buses. This was only... More

We recently returned from a stay at the San Cassiano. I had booked it because of the neihborhood feel and we did not want to be in the touristy neighbornoods. We had arrived late and took the water bus instead of the water taxi. Big mistake! Although we had a minimal amount of luggage, it was very easy to get... More

We stayed here 3 nights with my sister and husband June 2012 lovely hotel right on the Grande Canal, water taxi comes right up to the hotel balcony. Very central 15 minute stroll to St Marco's Square and the link for water boats to Murano Burano and Torcello islands well worth visiting. Two restuarants well worth visiting are: La Porta... More

The hotel was a bit hard to find. But this was because we tried to find it by foot. Else should have been easy. But the hotel and room was worth it. Amazing experience.

Along with my wife and 3 children we booked 2 rooms in this hotel for 2 nights last June. We found the hotel difficult to find at first, but once we did find it, it had a brilliant location. It had a great little drinks terrace over looking the Grand Canal. After busy days exploring the sights in Venice we... More

We arrived in Venice after a tour of Europe. I called the hotel to check if our room was available and easiest way to get to hotel. Was informed a private boat taxi would be best as it would drop us at the hotel and truth be told even with the expense it was a nice and comfortable way to... More

Dear Sir/Madame, first of all, we are sorry about any inconvenience we caused you but we'd like to clarify a couple of things: At the time you called us, we were still working on the problem and we didn't know if we could solve it or not...it was not the case to alarm you or any of the other clients... You do not go to Venice to spend much time in your hotel room , which is just as well with this hotel. And you should not stay in this hotel if you are claustrophobic. And suspend your ideas of 4 star. I have not been to Venice before, but it is clear that you have to make a lot... More

The best thing about this hotel is its location. I loved that you had to walk down alleyways to find it and unless you were heading to this hotel you'd have no reason to walk that way, it really was a hidden gem with a wonderful traditional italian feel to it. We stayed in a room overlooking the canal and... More

It is placed at three stops from train station. From the stop to the hotel it takes 2min and only two bridges. All this is great! The room eas perfectly clean and cosy. I did not lime the tipical venetian tourist stile, but it as neat and tidy. Breakfas was pretty good. But the best part is to have it... More

We (me, wife and 20 months old son) were here in April 2012. The hotel is a nice old building located in the S.Croce quarter on the Canal Grande, not far from the Rialto bridge. We had one of the rooms on the ground floor, which was large but with low ceiling and dimly lit (it was facing the opposite... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
