We just finished a 3 night stay with Andrea. We absolutely loved the accommodations and location. We were continually surprised at how completely quiet Venice became, just walking the couple of blocks off of the heavy traffic areas to this charming B&B. The room was of good size, clean, and we enjoyed the large private bath. Wrapping up our 11...

My husband and I stayed 2 nights in Allo Squero and loved it. Our room was nice sized and had a spacious bathroom and was very clean. Our breakfast was served on the porch overlooking the garden and was a great way to start our day! Andrea was great to give us recommendations, and he was very friendly and helpful....

We spent one night at Allo Squero and wished we had more time to stay longer. Location is terrific - in the heart of Venice. Room was spotless and property had lots of character. Would definitely recommend.

My husband and I booked this hotel for New Year's Eve 2013 on hostelworld and it looked like the best option for our budget that still had an opening, but we weren't expecting much. We were very pleasantly surprised to find the place was charming (only 3 rooms total, plus a cute garden), in a good location (very central to...

Of all the places my husband and I stayed during our two week vacation in northern Italy, Allo Squero was our hands-down favorite. We had a bright, spotlessly clean room overlooking a canal. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast, which we enjoyed outside by the garden, included fresh fruit, yogurt, cookies, juice and coffee, of course. Andrea and his nephew...

We were very happy to find this lovely b&b in a quiet part of Cannaregio. Andre, the owner, was very helpful and friendly, and served a very nice breakfast. The main drag is only a minute away, and San Marco and the train station just another 15-20 minutes. There are a few nice little restaurants tucked away in the neighborhood,...

This is an old family home that is in the process of being tastefully renovated. We liked the location because we could walk easily to both the major sights and also the less-frequented parts of the island. Our bedroom windows opened onto a side canal and it was nice to have the garden with cat even though it was a...

We flew into Venice on the way to the Dolomites and spent 2 nights at Allo Squero. We rode the Blue Line from the airport and then had a 10 minute walk to the B&B. It was not at all hard to find - just difficult to tell that you have found it. (minimal signage see photos). Easy return to...

Venice can be a bit much if you don't love hoards of people queuing, selling stuff and taking photos so finding a place a bit out of the way was perfect. It had a relaxing little garden and our room overlooked a canal. Breakfast was plentiful and we even got a packed one for an early departure. The room was...

Andrea and Hiroko are really nice and hospitable people. They picked us up by boat at the train station (for a fee that was well worth it). I wouldn't say that the B&B in particular is hard to find, in fact, everything is hard to find in Venice. We got lost many times in the 2 days. The B&B is...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
