Allo Squero is a very pleasant B&B in the Cannaregio district near San Marco. The location is tucked away from busy streets and is nice and quite, located on a small canal. It can be a little hard to find (as are most places in Venice), but Andreas gives very helpful directions, and the location is only a short walk...

Our second visit to this charming B&B which was every bit as good as the first. If you are looking for spotlessly clean accommodation within easy reach of all the tourist attractions (about 10-20 mins walk away) and yet far enough away from the noise and hustle and bustle of central Venice, then Allo Squero offers it to you. The...

Lovely B&B representing great value for money in what is an extremely expensive place to visit. Room clean and comfortable bed/decent night's sleep; though found shower luke warm at best. Bring ear plugs if noise bothers you at all as it's rather loud from early morning. Being able to breakfast in the garden was definitely a bonus; breakfast is very...

We really loved our stay here--wish it were for longer! Andrea was a very nice, helpful host. We enjoyed his breakfast and appreciated the map and restaurant recommendations (they were delicious!). We loved our room with a canal view--such a lovely site! The room was pretty big, too, as was the shower. We would definitely recommend our friends and family...

We were lucky enough to find Allo Squero through Trip Advisor and once again, we were not mislead. Allo Squero made our first trip to beautiful Venice one we will never forget. We found ourselves "outside" of the major tourist area (Rialto Bridge, St. Mark's, etc.) but very near (about 4 vaporetto stops) from all of the major attractions. We...

Allo Squero was all we could have wished for. After spending 2 nights at the end of a cruise in the large and impersonal Hilton, this was definitely a refreshing and pleasurable experience. Our room overlooked a small canal from which we could watch passing craft including Gondolas with the Gondolier at eye level! The B & B is charming...

The owner is very polite and helpful. His wife speaks Japanese so it can be a plus for Japanese travelers. It was fun to watch the gondola guys passing by from the room with canal view. Located in the quiet residential area but not far from attractions. Also, there is a grocery store nearby. Landry is available upon request.

Allo Squero is located in a quiet, non-touristy neighborhood. It was fun to stay in an area that had of a more authentic neighborhood feel. At first, we were worried about how safe it would to walk around at night with how tucked away it is, but we ended up feeling more than safe. And, as for the actually B&B,...

This B&B is wonderful - was a bit sceptical after viewing it on Google street view, but its in a lovely, safe and quiet spot in the residential area of Venice. Andrea is very helpful, really welcoming and shows you where all the best spots to eat are (everything we ate was really tasty and really reasonably priced). Breakfast is...

My son and I stayed at this lovely B & B at the start of June and had a perfect four night visit. Following Andrea's instructions we had no difficulty finding Allo Squero after alighting at Fondamente Nove and just that first walk was delightful. As others have said, it is in a perfect location - a quiet, 'real' neighbourhood...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
