This was booked through monastery stays - the booking was easy, and they made two or three changes as people changed their arrival dates. The location is by the public gardens of Venice, down a tiny street near a vaporetto stop. Just up from there is the Via Giuseppe Garabaldi with a nice selection of restaurants. It is a long...

This hotel is a religious house. It overlooks a large play area for children. I give it 10/10 for location because it is on the edge of the tourist areas but next to a quiet park area. There is a number of restaurants within a two minute walk of the hotel. The rooms are basic but spotlessly clean. The beds...

The Don Bosco's guesthouse is well situated : you are in front of the Giardini, ten minutes from the Piazza San Marco away. It is a real advantage! We, I and other students from Belgium, were warmly welcomed by the Salesiani: each morning, everybody says "Biongiurno" to each other. The atmosphere is relaxing and calm. However, the breakfast food wasn't...

Patronato Salesiano Leone XIII It would be hard to fault this ‘no frills’ accommodation in Venice which although a little way out from the centre is situated in a peaceful quarter of the city. The value for money is excellent and the accommodation provides all that one needs (apart from a television in the room – which you don’t need!)...

This Don Bosco's guesthouse is located in a quieter part of Venice surrounded by tree-lined streets and a large park - which no one believes. It is just 10 minutes walk to San Marco. You have the luxury to walk to all the tourist spots but come away to your little haven in the evening. Rooms are very clean and...

My daughter and I have just returned from 5 nights here and for us it was ideal, located in a quiet part of the city only 5 minutes walk from the Giardini Biennale waterbus stop. Our room was clean and comfortable with en-suite and hair dryer. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of fruit, ham, cheese, rolls, cakes, jams...

If you're looking for clean, simple accommodation without the frills, away (but not too far) from the tat stalls and tourist mayhem then Patronato Salesiano Leone XIII may just be the right place for you. We stayed two nights sat/sun in October and paid 100 euro per night (50 pp) in twin beds. It was a little school camp but...

Patronato Salesiano Leone XIII is a guest house with basic rooms and a basic Italian cold buffet breakfast. In August 2014, we paid 55 euro per person per night for a double room with twin beds and breakfast. (Venice is the most expensive city in Italy!) -There is an ELEVATOR to all floors and it worked well. -AIR CONDITIONING has...

Dear guest, what can I say.... this is the most helpful and complete review I have ever read! Thank you very much! This is the best advertising of our structure! I would like to correct just one thing: we ask our guests to be quiet after 10 p.m and not 8 p.m. We hope to have you as kind guest...

We confirm other reviewers' comments: this establishment provides functional, very clean accommodation for people who don't mind things being "ordinary". Our room was light with ample storage, air conditioning and a decent sized bathroom. The buffet breakfast was very acceptable. We stayed for 5 nights and particularly appreciated the location of the property with its proximity to the waterfront and...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
