My girlfriend and i stayed at this bed and breakfast for 7 days. Its a great starting point to explore Venice due to its location. Its a 15min walk to Piazza San Marco but its not located in the extreme touristic part of Venice. That said there are 5 restaurants located within a 2 min walk, and the bus stops...

This B&B is nicely hidden in a non-touristic area, so in the morning, when you open the windows you get a glimpse of how it would be to live in Venice! There's no sign at the door but you can ring any bell - the owner is anyway awaiting you. The couple, who runs the place, is very friendly, helpful...

Great room overlooking a small canal outside the tourist area. Pleasant and helpful staff. Spacious and very clean. In a residential area with butcher, bakery, and a fruit stand near by. Short 15 minute walk to St. Marks and 5 minute was to water taxi. Definietly recommend this B and B. Try Da Joñny restaurant, we ate there 3 times...

We managed to get a reservation on the day as a previous hotel was terrible. After a long day of travelling we finally arrived at this beautiful gem of a B & B. Rooms are very spacious and elegantly decorated. Bathrooms are spotless and stunning. The breakfast buffet is limited but everything is very fresh and tasty! We had an...

I have just stayed here for 6 nights, very easy walk from the vaparetto port Celestia. It was so nice staying away from the hoards of tourists especially at San Marco, B&B Alla Vigna is a short walk to San Marco once you master the twists and turns of the alleys, the map Santos provides is easy to follow and...

I stayed six nights at Bed and Breakfast Alla Vigna! The manager called me in Sweden to check that my questions regarding the direction to Alla Vigna was properly answered in an email from him. He had given direction for water bus and bus into Venice! I did choose to go by bus into Venice but I believe water bus...

We stayed here for 6 nights as we wanted to explore Venice simply by wandering and getting lost - a very achievable aim! and lots of fun. Santos, the manager, rang us soon after our internet booking was confirmed and advised that payment was to be in cash and he would forward directions so we could find the B and...

Great place to stay for the Biennale and within walking distance to Arsenale and Giardini. The same goes for San Marco and Rialto. Had a nice room overlooking the canal and the San Francesco Della Vigna church with an exquisite Bellini painting of the Virgin and Child. The hotel is run by a lovely Nepalese couple - thanks Santosh and...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
