We stayed in Al duca di Venezia for 4 days and had a wonderful stay. The staff was wonderfull and helpful. We had the red room during our stay and it did NOT disappoint us a bit and was every bit as nice as in the pictures. If you never been to Venice before, the hotel might be a bit...

A group of 12 booked the three apartments to share a night before a cruise. Located fairly conveniently to a vaporetto stop but enough out of the way that there isn't hordes of people traipsing past. Would be great for a longer stay or for a family.. although the one small bathroom in an apartment with 4 adults might be...

This was a delightful area of town away from huge crowds. I loved the location. The staff was completely wonderful, as was the water taxi to Murano that the hotel included. The breakfast was also probably the finest I enjoyed while traveling through Italy. But the wall of the room was chipping, and the owner needs to fix this! Otherwise,...

I have stayed here 2 times.. for the simple reason its only a 15 min walk from the main railway station and the rooms and service are fantastic.. but its in a very quiet and hidden location! I have to warn you.. its very difficult to find!! But its worth finding! We had a big double room which was a...

My wife and I enjoyed our annual trip to Venice and booked our room in advance. It was a delight to see Michelle, Caterina again and also Alice and hotel staff who were also very welcoming and helpful. It is an intimate and special hotel and you can be assured of a very enjoyable stay. We chose the elegant 'cream'...

Hard to find, but what a great place once you arrive. Historic-but still a beautiful place. Would love to stay here if we ever visit Venice again! The staff here deserves 6 stars!!! We enjoyed the large "red" family room.

We stayed here for three nights in August and had a fabulous time. The rooms are excellent, the staff helpful and attentive and the location perfect. We chose the hotel as it was near to an area we have previously stayed in and it is an easy to walk to all the sights in around 15 mins. It was a...

We stayed at the Hotel Duca for two nights pre cruise. The hotel was well positioned (10 min walk to Rialto Bridge, 15 to San Marco Piazza), with lively cafes and restaurants close by. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If we were to visit Venice again we would stay here

Excellent service. Room was red with mood like lighting. I. E not bright but suitable. There was a perfume like smell which was annoying at first but soon got used to. The modest price more than made up for the room ambience which some travelers may enjoy. We travelled with 2 children (3 and 6) and they added a double...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
