This is a simple hotel that was clean, conveniently located, and unbelievably inexpensive. The shared bathrooms were clean and we never encountered any issues with them. The "included breakfast" is a pre packaged croissant and tea bags. The towels were stiff and the bed was firm-- again, this is a very no frills place but it was clean and quiet...

We stayed here for three nights during the busiest Carnival weekend. The guest house has six rooms and a shared bathroom. Everything is very clean and the owners are very nice. One busy morning, they let us use their own bathroom, because everybody was apparently trying to use the shared one at the same time. Really appreciated that! No breakfast...

We only had one night in Venice. I am so happy we chose this hotel. The family was very nice. Even though we did not speak Italian and they barely spoke English, we were able to communicate. The room was very nice. The window opened up onto a canal. We thought it would be a problem of using the shared...

Very good location. The place is clean and the staff - pleasant. The room's furnishing is very basic. The bathrooms are shared which is a considerable problem when more guests arrive. There are two bathrooms - one of which is fine and the other one - has a very poor shower. There is no breakfast available and no facilities (apart...

About a 40-50min water bus ride from the train station, which is very scenic and an extremely affordable way to tour the Grand Canal. Quiet surroundings with some rooms that directly face the canal. Considerate and friendly staff, never a wait for the shared bathroom (which was always spotless), and the rooms are very spacious. It's located close to St...

My husband and I travelled to Italy over the last couple of weeks and Casa Favaretto was the perfect place for 2 nights. It was clean with a great location. The gelato right outside the main door was the best we had in all of Italy.

We were shocked by how expensive lodging was in Venice, and were almost apprehensive when we found this great deal in what seemed like the perfect location to explore Venice. After arriving, we were thrilled that all of our worry was unfounded! The accomodations were very simple and European, but met our needs perfectly, and the location was excellent. Just...

We hadn't stayed in smaller guest houses in Europe before - we either rented an apartment or stayed in hotels so we were apprehensive of finding such a low cost place in one of the most expensive cities despite such terrific reviews. We couldn't have been more pleased! If walking up a flight of stairs with luggage is not a...

Very friendly owners, I was told everything what to do, where to go etc. before I even asked. Place was very clean (room service every day). View on Laguna and St. Marco if you're lucky or if you just look out from the balcony in a corridor. I would definitely recommend.

We stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed it! I was worried because we arrived late, but Paolo stayed up and let us in when we got there. The directions from the website also made it very easy to find which is nice considering Venice is very confusing! It is in a great location, just far enough away from the...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

“A front facing room would give you a view of the Grand canal / St Marks. We had a side room with a view of a smaller canal. Frankly, it makes little difference. ”
