We stayed here for the first part of our honeymoon...and what a way to get it started! Great location, helpful and very friendly staff, bountiful breakfast, and...unbelievable rooms with unbeatable views on the Grande Canal. Minutes walk to the train station too, so no need to pay for a private transfer (unless your luggage weighs 100 lbs)!

I am writing this sitting on the private terrace of our room overlooking the grand canal (Room Antonio Canova) at the end of a perfect 4 day break in Venice. The hotel location, friendliness of staff and quality of the hotel are without comparison. Thoroughly recommend this hotel and taking a trip to Venice. We arrived early at the start...

Post cruise based on reviews here, I booked this hotel for my husband and I for two very memorable nights. The hotel is well appointed with views of the Grand Canal. We had a small terrace outside our room. My husband ordered a bottle of champagne, and we watched the sun good down, and listened to the violin player in...

We got a shared water taxi from the airport (google it) 25euro each, definitely best way to get there. Drop off right to the door. We didn't have a canal view but we knew this prior, we were in a separate building in the back, it was a nice room and big bathroom but no view. This was ok, we...

As seasoned travellers to Venice we decided this time that we would stsy at the Hotel Canal Grande because the reviews were so good. The hotel is far more reasonably priced than other hotels on the Grande Canal and is perfectly positioned to access all major attractions. This hotel is fantastic for 2 reasons. Firstly, the building is beautiful. Rooms...

We have just returned from a three night stay and we had a prestige room which I would say is worth having because you get the views of the Grand Canal. The room was of a very good standard and the staff were very obliging, making some excellent suggestions for dinner. The location is very convenient although it is very busy....

We stayed here for four nights in May and thought this hotel was first class. We arrived in style in a water taxi and it moored up at the hotel's little veranda. Our welcome was excellent and our room was lovely. It is worth paying a little extra to get a view over the canal as so much of Venetian...

I had high expectations of the Canal Grande and they were all totally met. I came here with my wife for the 10th anniversary of our first date - I'd let the hotel know in advance and was delighted to find a bottle of prosecco, chocolates and flowers in the room on arrival. The room looked out onto an alleyway...

The staff at the hotel is gracious and welcoming. My room was elegant and authentically Venetian in every way. The location is quite simply, unbeatable! My only regret is that I can't get back soon enough. Michelle Settles- Houston, Texas

We have just left the Hotel Canal Grande after staying for 3 nights in a front room overlooking the water. It is a beautiful hotel with fantastic, helpful and accommodating staff. The whole place is gleaming from top to bottom and we couldn't fault our room at all. 15 min walk to Rialto Bridge and opposite the train station. Would...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
