Hotel was clean enough and staff were willing to upgrade after spending one night in a very small room. The beds were very firm which didn't suit me. The location was convenient for getting the vaporetta but the surrounding area is a labyrinth of back alleys. It was very easy to get lost especially at night. Having caught the vaporetta... More

We stayed at the Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli April 2 & 3, 2014. The hotel was very clean. The hotel staff was excellent and very helpful. Our room was very nice and plenty spacious. The hotel is in a great location for catching the Vaporetto or for walking. We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard at night. The Wisteria was blooming and... More

I stayed at the Giovanelli from April 2 to April 6. I booked a 'run of house' room and was very pleasantly surprised to find the room that had been assigned to me - spacious, comfortable, with a very modern and spotless bathroom, excellent toiletries, good linen. Needless to say that the location is perfect, on the canal, just a... More

I would like to congratulate and thank all the staff for looking after our guests from the 3rd-5th April 2014. The guests staying at this hotel were attending my wedding in Venice and i must say when another 'leading' hotel let us down, Palazzo Giovanelli came to our rescue. The rooms allocated to us were probably the best we have... More

We had a pleasent stay at the hotel. All staff very friendly and helpfull. The location is perfect - very central and close to everything but away from tourism. Nice and clean room. Missed an international news channel on the free TV package

The Hotel was wonderful. We stayed in a room with a courtyard view. The room was quite comfortable. The hotel staff was great. The wait staff at breakfast was kind enough to bring ice so I could make Iced Tea. That was the only place in Italy that understood my Iced Tea addiction. Apparently, ice is not commonly used in... I am actually struggling to write this reveiw.... I simply do not have enough words to praise the hotel and staff enough. We have just returned from our third visit to Venice and each time we have been lucky enough to stay at this beautiful hotel on the Grand Canal. The Giovanelli is a stunning old Palazzo which has been... More

We stayed here for two nights mid March and had a wonderful time. The hotel was beautiful and the staff very welcoming and helpful. They were kind enough to book us a place for dinner and direct us to where we wanted to go. The room was lovely and clean and had a beautiful view. I would highly recommend the... More

We stayed at Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli for 4 nights. A bit of help getting to this hotel from the airport if you're planning on staying here.. We stayed at Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli for 3 nights. This was our first stop in Italy and we were very please with the friendly staff. Our room was very charming and comfortable. Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
