If you want to see Venice from a more local perspective, Alessandro will be more than happy to guide you along. He was more than hospitable and helped make our short stint in Venice a very pleasant experience. The stay was very comfortable and he was kind enough to upgrade us to a better room as this was our anniversary...

My wife and I stayed for three nights and two days during our 17 honeymoon in Europe. Ca'Barba was tied for the best place we stayed on the entire trip. Allessandro was an amazing host. He was very communicative from booking until we arrived in Venice. He gave us great instructions on which water bus to take to get to...

We highly recommend this B&B. It was in the perfect location- easy walk to the vaporetto and outside of the most tourist-filled areas. Our room was large and spotless with a modern bathroom. We stayed on the top floor. There is no lift and the stairs steep but manageable. The bed was comfortable and the street noise cancelled out by...

First and formost, Alessandro was the perfect host. I so appreciated how attentive and informative he was. The room was lovely, clean and the bedding, very comfortable. Alessandro personally served an amazing fresh breakfast and the best cappuccino. The B&B is located in the heart of Venice. Centrally located on the Grand Canal and Rialto Mercado where you are immersed...

Close to many excellent restaurants. Allesandro was an Ideal host, providing a healthy fresh breakfast each morning of our three day stay. His advice on restaurants and places to see was fantastic. The room we stayed in is the one featured on the website - roomy, high quality furniture and fittings.

From the start the communication was perfect, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spotless as was the linen, breakfast was wonderful and Alessandro makes the best coffee I have had in Italy so far, not only was he friendly and organised but spent a lot of time during breakfast each day writing down names...

It is immediately obvious that Alessandro has a deep love of Venice, and he is happy to share his tips on the best way to see Venice. His advice was perfect and saved us so much time. The B&B was so cozy, and the beds were the most comfortable of our entire visit to Italy. Everything was spotless and well...

I found Ca Barba on Trip Advisor and was so impressed by the reviews that I knew I had found the right place. It was even better than it looked in the pictures. Everything has been lovingly renovated with Venetian antiques. The bathroom was spa luxurious with jacuzzi and the bedroom spacious and lovely. Every morning Alessandro arrived with warm...

My friend and I stayed two nights at this place and we'd have to say that this was absolutely the best part in our trip. Check-in and check-out time were both flexible. Alessandro is incredibly helpful, welcoming and friendly to us. He picked us up from the water bus stop, helped us with the heavy luggage and provided us with...

This is a lovely B&B on a very quiet street but very near to all the hustle and bustle of the Rialto fish market. We walked everywhere from the B&B but it's very near a vaporetto stop if you would prefer that. Alessandro, the owner, is very helpful and friendly and made some great suggestions about which parts of Venice...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Ca' Barba, a few steps away from Rialto, is quite special. Jacuzzi baths and showers in each bathroom. Vintage, restored furniture. Original 19th Century pictures of Venice. Wood-beamed ceilings in each room, which is also equipped with safe-boxes and Wi-Fi access. No detail is overlooked: professional coffee machines for breakfast. Fresh-baked croissants, bread, fruit, yogurt, biscuits and an overall atmosphere, at once discreet and comfortable, encompassing the essential elements of travelling: beauty, informal - yet professional services, an attention to detail and a feeling of well-being which makes one truly feel at home. ... more   less
