Lovely small hotel in a quiet location - a plus in Venice!! Still within walking distance of main tourist attractions (everywhere in Venice is walkable) and only 10 minutes walk from Piazza Roma the coach station. Friendly welcoming staff. Bright breakfast room with outside courtyard. Good choice of breakfast to cater for all tastes. Good coffee and a choice of... More

Stayed for three nights, had a great view from our room overlooking the canal, good location 10 mins walk from train station. Some nice restaurants just a few mins walk, hotel staff will advise. Staff are friendly and informative. Breakfast was basic enough and I would advise eating inside due to over eager pigeons. Rooms are quite small but clean... More

Far from everything. Extremely small rooms, even smaller than the review I made on Eurostars International Palace of Rome. Difference here is the staff was extremely helpful and enjoyed assisting us lost Americans. My 5:30 a.m. coffee run was met with amusement but good advice about where to get coffee, and if proved an easy walk. The rooms again are... More

We spent 3 nights at the hotel. Our room was ready for us when we arrived at 2pm and we were shown to a big high-ceilinged room on the second floor with views through a 4m high window straight onto the canal. This part of Venice is close enough to the main tourist areas to be convenient but far enough... More

I recently stayed here following a cruise, the location is very convenient for both the port and the bus station to return to the airport. The hotel is situated in a lovely quiet part of Venice with local restaurants nearby. Our room was overlooking the canal with a gorgeous view and was very spacious. All the staff we spoke to... My sister and I cannot fault this hotel which is situated on one of the many canals in Venice. We were lucky enough to have a room looking over the canal with very high ceilings, wooden beams and a great view of the gondoliers on the canal. The staff were very friendly an spoke very good English. The were very... More

This is Venice so don't expect huge rooms however what a great hotel on our arrival we were given an upgrade to a room with a view ......WOW! We were given room 102, which had a beautiful view out onto the canal. The room was comfortable if a little shabby around the edges but this didn't seem to matter. The... More

Very old building, marble floors, very picturesque. Our room was on the small side but was perfectly clean and pleasant despite being on the rear of the hotel (no canal view :( ) Very quiet (apart from some very ignorant americans having a loud conversation in the corridor late at night) we slept really well. The location of the hotel... More

Stayed 3 nights late September, with a twin room for us and a single for our daughter. Nice, quiet'ish part of Venice, alongside a picturesque canal basin and one of the small bridges. 10-15 minutes' walk from the station and from the bus station, both involving 2 bridges over canals. It's a 30 minute walk to St.Mark's square. Several good... More

Nice hotel, at convenient distance from the railway station, in a good location, quiet neighbourhood, extremely kind and professional staff, good rooms. Also: they go the extra mile! Provided gluten free breakfast for me (I emailed them a couple of days prior to arriving) and as I was there during high-water season, they even gave me rubber boots (they keep... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
