The hotel isn't great but its location is fantastic and the price is lower than the other hotels. Average room but just in the middle of everything. You can just step out of the hotel and be right there with the Venice that we all imagine. Ask for a room facing the street.

Hotel Al Sole is located by a quiet canal in a former palazzo in which features of the building's historic past are cleverly incorporated into a hotel with modern facilities. We spent four nights here and found it an ideal centre - literally five minutes from Piazzale Roma and the bus station and car parks, but in a very pleasant...

This hotel, by the canal, was fabulous. Not ritzy, but great atmosphere, great setting. It is a central point for visiting everything. The person at the reception desk (Lucca) made us feel at home, guided us with many options and pointed us to fabulous restaurants and attractions within Venice. I review one restaurant on TripAdvisor. It's called CRAVATTE and is...

We throughly enjoyed our 5 nights spent at this hotel for our honeymoon we had a superior room which was extremely spacious and clean! Only one thing we diddnt like was the fact it doesn't have tea and coffee making facilities which is a shame but has a mini bar which is good. Breakfast is continental with cold meats cheese...

Spent 3 nights in this lovely canal side hotel in February and found it a lovely base from which to explore Venice. The hotel's position is perfect on a small canal beside a quaint bridge in one of the quieter, but not inaccessible, areas. The room we had (304) was supposed to be a superior double and although small was...

We took a water taxi from the airport which dropped us directly outside the hotel - that was cool - the staff are super friendly speaking French, English and Italian (they were the languages I heard) very helpful. The hotel itself is comfortable, very warm and clean enough. The beds are super comfy, the ceilings incredibly high which gives a...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
