Stayed here during the Carneval. Luckily in the evening most people leave the city so it is quiet during the night. Our room was clean and tidy and we had a good rest´s sleep. The breakfast was extra for 16.-eur buffet, continental was also available, but had to be taken in the room. Staff was very friendly and helpful!

Location is central and not far from Rialto boat stop. Like many hotels and BB's signs are not very large or easy to find but that is Venice. Like someone said you have not been to Venice unless you have lost your way at least once. We did not have a problem finding it but we kept eyes on our...

A great place to stay-large clean and beautiful warm(In Feb. !) rooms. Centrally located. It's only drawback is the lack of a sign. It's hidden in a small alley off Campo Santa Maria. So look for Santa Maria hotel as an indicator

Extremely pleasant experience! The hotel managed to get the room ready earlier so we could use it at 11h00, they upgraded us and the room was huge. The hotel is old but very clean and that makes all the charm of staying in the center of Venice. It is ideally located, close to all the main point of interest and easily...

There are good and bad things about this property. I have just stayed for three nights and it was fairly easy to find if you follow the instructions they provide you with. The rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated. However my room was right next to the stairs so constantly had doors banging, was also quite noisy from the...

i am sorry as this review comes three years late, i stayed here for two nights in Nov 2011. firstly, the hotel has published a video on youtube with clear directions which was extremely useful. it is not easy to find addresses in Venice and we arrived in the middle of the night when it is deserted. we had the...

There are stairs and no elevator but if that scares you, do not visit Venice--all walking and many stairs. Our room had a terrace, but it was raining the entire 4 nights in November, that we didn't get a chance to enjoy it. The bathroom was modern, the room was clean, the staff was friendly. I forgot to try the...

The hotel calls itself charming…. and the hotel couldn't be more right. I was given a big room, with a big terrace, a very comfortable bed. The staff was very kind and helpful. From the reservation I could see that this was going to be good. For an example: they immediately sent me an email wanting to know what kind...

Hotel was tricky to find but map/directions that they sent to me were perfect. Small hotel in good central Venice location. Room was huge! Small breakfast nook, armoire, 2 night stands, loveseat, and 2 small balconies. Bathroom was a little tight but seemed to be the norm in Italy.

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
