Stayed here for 3 nights recently. The location is brilliant and the price is very reasonable. The room itself is basic but a good size and comfy bed. Breakfast was nice in the mornings. Unfortunately there was regularly a strong smell of cigarette smoke within the accommodation and this seeped into our room and was really strong smelling. If it...

Just a few minutes walk from the water bus and over the Rialto Bridge. Spotlessly clean and well maintained with over the top hospitality. Good breakfast of fresh fruit, juice, pastries, bread, cheese and a variety of espresso drinks. Our host was waiting in the street for us to provide keys and instructions upon our arrival. The location is excellent...

1. Getting there from airport was so straightforward, water bus to the Rialto stop and then a 5 minute walk and using some very good instructions from a previous Tripadvisor reviewer, it was easily found. 2. Room was clean and spacious for a B&B with a smallish en-suite bathroom. If only continental hotels and b&bs had tea/coffee making facilities then...

The food is nothing less than fantastic. We've tried several courses and haven't been let down in any way. Definitely worth a visit! We will come back. If not for the sights, then for the food at Barababao

How lucky I was to choose this place. Super clean. Well taken care of. Great breakfast. Extremely friendly host. Lucca is the best. Gave us great advice about restaurants and places to visit. At the end we were sad to go. Stop searching. You've found the right place to stay.

Minutes from Rialto bridge and just off the main walking path to San Marco, you'll be staying in a very central location. There is a restaurant downstairs by the same name and managed by the same owner. I believe B&B guests receive a 10% discount for meals there. Sounds from the street are pretty clear, but it's not TOO loud....

We have stayed at Barababao several times over the last 5 years. It is a very nice place and meets the needs of any traveler. The owner and his family are great people and very attentive. Location is great since it is only minutes from the Rialto Bridge and Saint Mark Square.

It's simple, clean, friendly and fair. The host is very good with giving useful information and the streets surrounding the place are not too loud at night. During the day the area is packed. It is very close to the airport boat shuttle which is a big plus.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
